    Default Discouraged!!!!!

I had my surguery on 12/21/11 and to todays date I have only lost 42 pounds
I really don't know what Im doing wrong I just seem to stall all the time and the weight fluctuates 1 or 2 pounds. I do eat pretty much anything now just of coarse in moderation and I do try to go to the gym atleast twice a week but really its hard not to compare to some of the stories I read here and feel so frusteradted!!

Don't be discouraged! just take a look at what you are eating. make sure you are eating your protein first and watch your intake of carbs and other stuff that may not be good. Excersise is very important you need to do more and maybe not the same thing over and over try new stuff - once your body gets use to doing the same thing it (that certain excersise does not help anymore) you need to up your game in the gym.

This is just a minor set back... you have lost 42lbs so far....I am sure once you look at everything and do some changes you will be losing again.

hope this helps keep ENCOURAGED! remember the race is not given to the swift or strong but to the one who endures to the end.

Well that's 42 lbs in 25 wks, about 1.7 lbs a week. You started lower than some so take that into account. I started 60 lbs higher than you and am still at an avg of 1.90 lbs a week. Look at it this way, 1.7 lbs a week x 52 wks is 88 lbs, which is just 9 lbs short of your goal weight next Dec.
I know it's frustrating to see some folks drop and it looks easy. We each have our own metabolic rate and individual chemistry. If your vitamin levels are good and your thyroid is on track, then this is how your body loses weight. Just remember thats 42 lbs you'll never see again.

I can't emphasis enough how important enough protein is though. so many of us can't lose a lb if we don't get pretty high protein and relatively low carbs. Some folks can get away with just lower calories... some can't. So aim for min 70 gms of protein a day, lots of water, and get enough rest, at least 7 hrs a night if not 8 or 9...and hang in there!

I understand you. I'm pretty well in the same boat. My surgery was 2 weeks before yours and I'm at 58 lbs loss post op. Tomorrow is the 6 month anniversary of my surgery so my average has now dropped to below 10 a month which is frustrating. I was averaging 15 a month early on but I have hit some long stalls. I agree with the others advice. Protein first really does seem to make a difference. Up the exercise and the water intake. Good luck to you. I know its very hard as I am very guilty of it myself, but try not to compare to others. Focus on your personal successes and celebrate the weight you have lost. You are only 8 lbs away from Onederland!

Jessi, I had my surgery 5 days before you and my starting weight was the same as yours. I've had my share of stalls too. I've noticed that I lose more when I drink LOTS of water (plain old h2O), upped my protein to 70+ grams and excercise every day (at least for a few minutes). One stall lasted 3 weeks, then lost 3 lbs...then fluctuated up and down again. Just stick to the program and do what you know works. It will start moving again. Are you tracking your food, carbs, calories? This has really helped me see what I'm eating. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!

Hi Jessi, sorry you're having some problems. Everything here is terrific advice. My other thought would be to keep a food diary each day along with tracking your exercise. When we see things on paper it makes a big difference at times. I write what I eat, the amount in ounces, the approx. calories and the protein. Also, have you been snacking at all in between? How about going back to the basics and doing a liquid diet for a few days to shake things up. Just some suggestions. Also, the opposite can be true...perhaps you're not eating enough calories with the protein. It sounds counterintuitive to us, be our bodies sometimes need more to function properly. We, in our "fat" mindset and old ways think calorie reduction most of the time. Wishing you success.

I agree with everyone's comments. I too was getting discouraged and didnt think I was loosing like I should. I increased my protein intake, mostly chicken, and my water intake and the weight has started coming off again. I must admit I have not been in the gym in 3 weeks, the drive is just not there. I am keeping my fingers crossed for both of us.

    Hello Jessi,
Oh boy can I relate to you! I have been frustrated as well but...I did get advice that has really helped me out (thank you Grace!). I started doing "2 days low carb" which has been a huge help. I've included the website on the link below. As an FYI: I'm losing but it's not fast - but something is better than nothing

    Best of luck to you!
