    Default Surgery was yesterday!!!

Aside from being groggy, thirsty, and having a sore throat, I feel pretty great. Of course I do feel like a mule kicked me in the stomach but that too shall pass. I started my two week Pre-op diet at 305 pounds and I was 285 at check-in yesterday. 20 pounds before surgery!!! I am a little nervous about the next few days with my diet. I really don't mind routine and doing the same thing everyday just so long as it isn't disgusting. With that being said, can anyone recommend a good powder protein and a good ready-to-drink protein shake. I currently have the lean strawberry shake protein powder that they sell at smoothie king. One scoop is 25 grams of protein and I'm going to cut that with 4oz of water twice a day. Also going to mix a scoop with my plain yogurt. I am looking for a good tasting protein shot and ready made drink as well. I would love any suggestions. Thank you.

    Congratulations and welcome to Sleeveland!
I used protein powders pre-surg but could not get them down post surg, threw a whole lot of it away eventually. I use proasis protein shots, they are a complete protein, heat stable (throw it in a briefcase, lunchbox, etc and forget it til you need it).... I like niagra grape. Also popular are the fruit punch and orange pineapple. I use it to make protein jello using knox gelatin, hot water and proasis instead of cold water. I guess you can tell I'm a fan They used to sell them singles at Rite Aid not sure if they still do. They are pricier that way but just to try it....
once you can drink more water more easily, you can mix one in with a bottle of water and just head out...

Welcome to the other side and a healthier YOU! I've used Unjury protein powders .. they come in various flavors and are 20 gr protein per packet. They have unflavored, vanilla, chocolate, chicken soup which is v good, and some others too. I bought mostly premade shakes so I wouldn't have to bother especially that first week or so...I like the premium shakes I buy at Sam's Club that have 30 grams of protein. Oh Yeah also puts out some good ones for 32 grms for the bottle but I find them extremely rich and sweet. I usually have to add water to those to cut that down. Good luck to you and keep us posted.

Congrats Mark on your surgery! I use EAS protein shakes all ready made up. I love the chocolate and strawberry. They have a low carb version. Got to watch calories in some drinks. EAS is about 110. I eat a lot of sugar free popsycles. Good luck!

I purchased a variety pack of the Nectars. They were okay in the beginning. I would recommend that you go to Drug Emporium to purchase your drinks, I find that they have the best prices. I got some cans of pure protein there for about $2.50 a can, which is pretty good for a meal on the go with 32 grams of protein, it comes in flavors like chocolate, strawberry, vanilla and banana.

Currently, my favorite powder is the French Vanilla flavor by Designer Whey, 18 grams, and add 8 more because I mix it with milk and never with water. I also got a jar of PB2 (powdered peanut butter), and mix that in with the protein powder and milk about 3 times a week, that adds 5 grams more. I do sometimes add plain yogurt, and frozen bananas and strawberries, but that makes it more like a smoothie that has to be drunk from a straw. Please don't tell Amber (food girl) that you are drinking from a straw!

I live in upper Lafayette, so don't get to Smoothie King very often, but I really love their Gladiator Smoothie. It takes me about an hour to drink the small size, but it is so delicous! I think I will make my way to Ambassador Caffery tomorrow to get me one.

Basically, don't buy too much of anything. I know that my taste buds changed about once a week in the beginning.

Congrats on your surgery. Hang in there, it will get better, I promise. At this stage, my biggest worry was that drain tube.....and now I can barely remember what it felt like to have it. And I ate a lot of popsicles, a huge amount of popsicles!! You are going to do great! Hope to see you at a meeting, or run into you in the office waiting room :-)

Congrats on your surgery and the beginning of your new life. My favorite protein powder is Unjury. I use the unflavored so I can mix it up with anything. Also my favorite pre made protein shake is Premier Chocolate, it has 30 grams of protein. I buy it from Costco.

Congratulations on your surgery. Try Syntrax Nectars--come in about 14 flavors and very yummy. 23 gr. protein per serving.
