What are the rules for soup?

I had my surgery on the 23rd (Wednesday) and I was able to start full liquids when I came home. I have taken to everything fine. I know I can have tomato soup (it was in my instructions) but I have read about people having cream of _____ soup and just straining the pieces out first. Is that okay to do also? I don't see a difference between that and tomato...

Hi Joni!
Im so glad to hear that you are progressing well. I think that Cream of whatever soups are ok to eat, however, they have a ton of calories, which might put a damper on your weightloss. Honestly, im still too nervous to have anything but protein shakes and water. Trader Joes tends to have a few soups that are better on calories than other grocery stores. Let me know how it works out.

Next week I will be giving the big Trader Joe's near my house a try! Girl, I WISH I was too nervous to eat but I have been so hungry IDK why! I've only eaten yogurt and I had some broth today but, I wish I could just fast forward to June 5th so I can have some pureed food. Glad to see you on the other side, Lindsey!

I dont know if its because of how sick I got from this whole thing or what, but I have no desire for food AT ALL. I think the protein shakes are doing their job. They're the premaid chocolate ones from Costco. 30g of protein in one shake. Ive been working on one since today at 11, and Im no where close to being done, but at least they taste good ) I cant even consider broth yet lol. Best of luck doll. Let me know how it goes at TJs

I tried cream of mushroom tonight. My dietician said to make the low fat version, add some protein (I used the plain, no flavored Unjury) and strained it. It was good, took me an hour to get 1/2 cup down, but it when down better than the protein shakes.

@Lindsey I remember hearing costco had some really good shakes but we just got rid of our costco membership because we tried bj's and liked it way better. Do you know the name of the shake? Maybe I could find it somewhere else.

Oh boo! I love Costco...Dont know what I would do without it. Lol...Theyre called premiere nutrition protein shakes. I think it was like $25 for 20 little boxes of the premaid shakes.

@Lindsey, does Costco let me go in for a day and buy something like BJ's? These shakes are hella expensive to ship!

Hmmmm. Im not sure....I know that if you are a member and you dont have your card they will give you a pass, but im not sure about not being a member altogether.

Any chance you are a student? If you are, you can sign up for free 2 day shipping with your school email addy, and can order it on Amazon for $18, which is actually cheaper than costco. I would look around Amazon even if youre not getting the 2 day shipping, it might be cheaper.

I had low sodium bullion the first two weeks. After two, I had thinned down creamy soups with not chunks in them. Every doctor is different. I tried to stay away from anything high in sodium. Good Luck!
