why we can't have creme of potato or corn soup when we are in the full liquid phase?
I had cream of potato soup. Corn is hard to digest; that much I know. But I thoroughly enjoyed my cream of potato soup. Whenever I encountered a chunk of potato, I chewed it until it was mush. Loved it!
They are trying to limit carbs for the first several weeks...

Yeah, I wondered about that too. But you can eat so very little the second week...only about 4 oz. of soup max. My dietitian said it was okay; even mashed potatoes in week three was okay. But thereafter, when normal foods are all back in the diet, then it was time to eat our proteins first, vegetables second, and save the carbs for very last (room permitting...which it never does!).
It still amazed me how there is a wide variation of "rules" that are out there in both the pre-op and post-op diet. My team have given me very few specific rules. Even during the return to normal food, I was told the 2 weeks liquid, 2 weeks puree, 2 weeks soft were only guidelines and I should just listen to my body. I have been told "protein, protein, protein" and to eat my protein, then carbs and then fruit/veg if I have room. It was only under duress did I get told how many calories I should be aiming for a day.
For me, part of the reason I decided to go for the sleeve was because I am not a good rule follower for extended periods of time and I am personally finding the liberty of "listen to your body, now that it doesn't lie to you as much" very liberating.
Thank you, everyone! I do see a wide range of rules for before and after the surgery. I am on I am 9 days post op and started full liquids this week. I never considered the high carb thing. I just couldn't figure out why I couldn't have potato's! Lol! Thank you all so much for the info.
