Default Very Confused & Nervous!! Regrets Anyone??

Ok everyone I finally decided to actually join this forum. I have some questions. I have plans on getting the spider GS. I'm a nervous wreck about not having a "normal' tummy anymore! I'd like to know if anyone has had ANY regrets having the GS? Also, before I gained 100 lbs. in 5 years I used to be very active. I loved riding my horses. Does anybody have problems when they bounce up & down? When you're active at all? I have set my date but I'm still extremely leery about all of this! Any advice please??
    Thanks!!

In the beginning, Yes, I had regrets for about 8 weeks after my surgery. I thought I would never be "normal" again and I had a tough recovery. It's a new way of eating and drinking and re-training yourself. It's not an easy fix and it does take work. Every once in a while I'll accidentally gulp a smoothey or eat too fast if I'm super hungry and it makes me sick. I run to the bathroom, get sick, and remind myself that I'm still learning and I need to slow down! Like I said, it takes work. I'm now 6 months out and I've lost 94 lbs. and I have no regrets. I'm so happy I went forward with the sleeve. For the most part I know what makes me feel sick (sugar, eggs, bread, or too much chicken), and I know what sits well in my new tiny tummy (salad, protein bars, Jamba Juice, or just three cubes of chicken). It's been a tough journey but it's totally worth it! I'm loving the feeling of being healthy and I'm actually looking in the mirror again without cringing. I no longer live to eat...I now eat to live!

I am 8 weeks post-op and still miss the mental aspect of sitting down and eating a big meal, either alone or with family. I used to be able to knock out a 24oz porterhouse or a footlong chicken carbonara sub from Quiznos. Now, even thinking about that makes me nauseous. I am still trying to wrap my head around the whole "eating to live, instead of living to eat" mentality. But I am down about 60 lbs so far, and that makes the cravings and memories and that whole "overeating lifestyle" not appealing any more.

ThinBlueSarge...I love your profile pic!!! I promise the longer you live with it the easier it gets. I used to miss my footlong turkey sandwich from subway...the mentality just comes with time. You're doing great!

I'm six weeks out. I had regrets when I hit my stall of weight loss. Also, I deal with "head hunger" from time to time. Mainly when I go to the grocery store. But, I do not regret this decision. I've wanted to give up when the scale hadn't moved in 3 weeks. But I literally could not. I would get sick if I did. I have not "cheated" at all. I'm not hungry - physically. I have learned to love healthy foods and exercise. Never thought I'd see the day. You must be 100% focused on the weight loss and this journey. Or I could see that you'd become very depressed with the "finality" of this surgery. Again - very grateful for this. Stay true and honest with yourself before you do this.

Personally, I have had no regrets. My surgery went well, the recovery was normal for a major surgery. I have not had any complications and I am back to eating regular foods (just not as much). Eating has become a more social event, I actually listen to the conversations!

Not everyone is as lucky and those folks do have regrets in the beginning but most change their minds after a few weeks out. I think the key is understanding what got you here in the first place. There are mental issues you have to deal with if you are an emotional or binge eater. You have issues if you are a snacker, or eat a lot of sweets. Once you deal with this, your journey should be smooth sailing.

Whatever you decide, best wishes on your journey!

Houston, Texas. My Dr. will be using the spider on me so there will only be a small scar in my belly button.
