Hot Flashes worse after surgery than before!!

I was having very mild hot flashes (due to complete hysteroectomy 5 yrs ago) that didn't need HRT actually my antidepressent helped with moods and flashes. Once I had surgery my hot flashes actually disappeared until the last month...now the flashes are much worse...has anyone else had this issue or heard of others having a similar experience??

Oh I still get cold - its just the hot flashes are more intense than they use to be...

Estrogen is stored in fat cells. You are very likely losing some of your supply. Have you tried any soy products?

it may be that you have added sugar back to your diet. that will trigger it. try Apple cider vinegar, it helps a lot of people with hot flashes. I take it and menopause essentials from Swanson vitamins. I wont be without them again. but since the surgery I have more problems being cold than anything else. I prefer it to being over heated.

I have had hot flashes for a few years (premenopausal). I take Equate Estroblend Maximum strength. It really helps, but it takes a few weeks to really kick in. I had to go off it 2 weeks before surgery and I was ok till about 2 weeks after surgery. The. It seemed me an eternity before I felt some relief. And yes, the hot flashes were worse! Plus, when the flash would end I felt super cold; that was new. HTH.

I had terrible hot flashed pre-surgery. After the sleeve, I was cold all the time and no hot flashes at all. I thought it was too good to be true. I'll take cold any day. Well, it WAS too good to be true. After about month 3, my hot flashes and night sweats are back. They're still not quite as bad as before, and I'm hoping they don't get worse....we'll see.

This surgery started severe hot flushes in me.I suppose I have been having mild night sweats before but boy oh boy,now I get at least 7 huge hot flushes per day...maybe more.I am 45 and my period is still very regular.o well,time to explore natural stuff to make this better.

I seem to experience hot flashes as a direct result of what I eat. Sugar does bring them on and they are intense. Other times I am just cold. I am wearing more jackets and sweaters than ever. Blessings- Connie I also thing I have the hot spells just prior to a change in the scale. Who knows??? I am have not felt this good physically in YEARS!!!

I am not there yet, so this is a wild poke in the dark on a subject I know nothing about (go figure - ) but if you were "peri" menopausal before, it is possible you are just hitting the real "menopausal"? I.e. if you hadnt had a hysterectomy already, maybe this is when you would have started having menopausal symptoms naturally? (I assume in the next 5-10 years I will become an expert on this subject, but for now I am just taking notes for the future!)

Oh thank goodness it's not just me SCGAL!! It sounds just like my experience!!! Seems a lot changes around month 3. Was hoping I was cured of the hot flashes...mine were very mild pre surgery... now I heat up more freq and hotter!

Jane - Yes had full hystrectomy about 5 yrs ago. So already in menopause.

Oh yeah I can join you in the hot flushes saga. I had semi hysterectomy (one ovary left) when I was 37. Started having hot flushes about 5 yrs ago, settled before surgery but now it seems the surgery and other health issues post op has thrown the hormones into overdrive. Now getting hot flushes morning, noon and night. I have just started taking promensil to see if this will help settle things down. (promensil doesnt have black cohosh in it).

Wow! when I read your post I thought OMG it sounds just like me! I had very bad, bad hot flashes, for yrs, when I decided to have the surgery I was told I would have to come off the patch for a few wks before surgery. so I did, and I was miserable!! After surgery, I noticed that my hotflashes were gone! Yes! gone! how wonderful this surgery is, OMG I can't believe they are gone! then a few months went by and one night I had a real bad hot flash. Then they got worse and worse. No this can't be happening! but yes it did, they are back and were real bad. I went back on the patch and it has helped some, but I am still getting them, and they are worse now then ever I see commercels on tv for a place to get check and I wonder would that work? Well for now I am on the patch and it does help, i dress in layers so not to fell real bad. I hope that yours tapers off after a while. If you find something that helps please share! thanks from the hot one! LOL
