Default ARTHRITIS in FEET ~ Does it get better after surgery?

I have arthritis in my feet, especially my left, and if I walk too much, or am on my feet for too long at a time (like shopping in walmart for 2 hours!), my feet will hurt badly for a couple of days.

Do any of you have this? What do you do for it? And, will it/does it get better after weight loss??

    Thanks!

I dont have arthritis in my feet but I do have plantar faciatis and a bad knee. I started walking 1.5 miles 3 days a week last week. Nothing in my body hurts. Yea!!!! I've lost 32 pounds and I have tons of energy. Hope you get same results!

I have arthritis in my ankles and knees, since I have been loosing weight and trying to exercise, my knees have been hurting more so, I have to get an MRI because its getting worse and clicking.. My doctor said "theres no cure for arthritis, I wish I could tell you it would get better but I would be lying" I was like wow.. thanks.. I thought loosing 30 pounds would make it better, but I think, because I am moving more now then when I weight 225, they are getting sore and trying to get used to all the movement I am doing now. I think In time after I loose more weight and keep moving it will get better, but after seeing how they got worse, I really don't know what to think, and I can't take my NSAID's anymore either, I was taking mobic,

Wow, that sucks! I was told by one surgeon that he has a patient that he finally relented and let him take the NSAID every other day, instead of daily... but this new surgeon's office I have suggested changing to Celebrex, which is supposedly more costly.. Haven't priced it, yet. I hope we both get better!

Many people report that their arthritis improves with weight loss. I read that with each pound of extra weight, that's an extra 3 pounds of impact on our knees. So, if you are 100 pounds overweight, that's an additional 300 pounds of impact on your knees! Yikes! You lose 30 pounds, you take off 90 pounds of impact, but maybe it's not enough yet. I can say that I do have advanced arthritis in my knee and a torn meniscus. I have moderate artitis in the other knee, so I understand your pain. I've lost 24 pounds and haven't felt any relief yet. I am hoping that when I lose a more significant amount I'll notice a difference. However, as soon as I'm down to 240, I can get my meniscus repaired, and that's something I really need.

I hope things get better for you, too, Sunflower! .. I think carrying around 150-175 lbs of excess weight CAN'T make my feet very happy! So, I have to believe they will feel better! (as well as my back) I don't have the co-morbidities such as diabetes or high blood pressure - I just have the aches and pains of arthritis in my feet, and nearly bone-on-bone between L5 & S1 in my lower back. So far, I have dealt with it okay, BUT, I am definitely starting to feel it all - at age 42 - and I know I have to do something about this weight!!

I have degenerative arthritis in my knees, hips and ankles. The pain was so excrutiating that I just knew I would be in a wheelchair in a few years. I have lost 45 lbs and my pain is gone in my ankles and deminished greatly in my hips and knees. I sleep now instead of tossing in pain all night. It's true there is no cure for arthritis, but I'm thinking when I lose another 30-40 lbs it will stop the damage that carrying all that extra weight was causing. I can walk a mile easily now, but couldn't walk to the end of my street without being in so much pain. Oh, I hqven't taken any pain meds since 2 weeks after surgery! Good luck to you! I pray you get as much relief as I have.

Oh Wow, scgal, that's fantastic!! I'm so happy for you, and hope for continued improvement! I have confidence that losing weight will work wonders! I have made the jazzy chair joke, myself, although it's not much of a joke! We are too young for that!

The medical profession says there's no cure for arthritis, but according to several studies on enzymes, your body can cure itself. I just got my Wobenzyme that's manufactured and studied in Germany. I hope it fixes my arthritis and inflamation issues. Good luck

Hello, my feet and legs are both markedly improved after surgery AND with walking, for the first time in years I can walk with pain in my feet, legs and lower back. The catch is, you must keep up the walking or the discomfort will return! Hope you have the same results I did, this alone makes the surgery worth it!! Blessings

I have/had arthritis in my back and lower hips, and I have had chronic foot and ankle problems my whole life. Losing weight (90 lbs) has made a WORLD of difference for me. I still have bad days occasionally, but they serve as a reminder of what EVERY day used to feel like! On those bad days I miss taking Aleve, but stretching and yoga, combined with Tylenol and heat/cold, seem to do the trick.

I still can't do high-impact activities like running or aerobics, but everything else is entirely possible WITHOUT PAIN.

I hope you have as great of results! Keep me updated!

There may not be a cure for arthritis BUT losing weight does cause less stress on your body so YES it will most likely get better for you. I was one step away from disability when I got my surgery. It was a last ditch effort at a chance to live....I had nothing to lose (other than weight). I am now free of pain. I climb stairs with no effort!! I can stand FOREVER now rather than looking for somewhere, anywhere! to sit down. In fact, yesterday I went to an all day event and was on my feet for almost 7 hours!! and yet once upon a time I couldn't stand for 10 minutes straight!! haha!
