Vitamin intake after gastric sleeve.

I don't do pills well....at all! So, I've worked with my Nut to come up with some non-pill vitamins:

Nature's Plus Source of Life Gold, 1/2 dose each, morning and evening. (My Nut was so impressed with this [I found it] that she wrote it down to share with her other patients.)
Tropical Oasis Liquid Calcium & Magnesium, 2 T in the morning and 2 T at night. (Can reduce or eliminate the night dose if I had a lot of calcium that day.)
Iron 3X/week (this one is still a little pill--ugh!)

Misc.: Stool softener 2/day. Tylenol for pain (I crush this, mix it and drink it), and Melatonin to help me sleep (I crush this, mix it, and drink it also). I am looking at adding some crushed tryptophan tablets to help me sleep as well if necessary. I have a really hard time falling asleep since surgery. I'm just too restless and wide awake at night.
I still have labwork regularly to determine if anything else needs added, but so far it is looking like this supplement system is working well.

I take 4 Optifast chewable, 1 500 mg Viactiv Calcium chew, 1 5000 IU Vit D and 1 Iron + Vit C chewable a day. My docs advise the specialized Bariatric vitamin because there's not enough of specific minerals in regular adult multivitamins. Its good to have blood work done every so often to check your levels because if you can get everything from food, you wont need the supplements. Vit B12 is one that Bari's need a really high concentration of because its so poorly absorbed in the body. And you can't take calcium within 2 hours of taking Iron, because the iron interferes with the absorption of the calcium.

If you can drink OJ, that is the best to help your body metabolize the iron. Iron cannot work effectively nor be absorbed without Vit c.

My doctor has me taking 1 complete multivitamin (I take centrum chewable adult Multi with iron), sublingual vit B, liquid vitamin D (which tastes terrible!), and liquid calcium each day.

Really after the surgery we must take care of our health, as much fat, protein and even vitamins can create small issues related to health and habits. Taking injections should be only used as an alter native , not like on regular basis, because the injected medicine dissolves with blog directly, but when you take medicine in tablets , if in case there is an reaction , you can cure that in much easy way.

I take 1 centrum multi, 2x a day calcium citrate (don't take the carbonate, it's not well absorbed. Citrate is very well absorbed), Vitamin b12 sublingual every day. Most days a week I take a probiotic and fish oil supplements, but I sometimes forget.

The multi vitamin I buy from Centrum contains iron. Take the calcium citrate 2 hours later at least. You don't take a multi or pill containing iron and calcium at the same time.

I think it depends. Where I went for my surgery, everyone got an individual vitamin regimen, based on their personal profile.
I take:
chewable multi-vitamin, twice daily
chewable Calcium + D, twice daily
biotin, once daily
chewable fish oil + vitamin D, once daily
chewable iron once daily
and B-12 injections once per quarter.

Greeneyes -- I use tablets called Iron Melts, which we originally bought for children at the clinic where I work. I like the taste of them.

Kait -- you nutritionist will advise you. I took chewables about 3 weeks after surgery and tablets after a few months.

I have noticed a real difference since taking the vitamins. i take :

3x calcium tablets
1x iron with vitamin c
1x q10
1x high grade multi vitamin
1x cod liver oil tablet
i also have one or two high protein, low carb, semi digested shake. Does not taste great but i hope its working.

I take chewable (mens formula) in the AM with a Calcium/Magnesium supplement and a Potassium supplement, and Isotonic vitamins at night, (muti with iron, B-complex, and Calcium with D) -- we will see if I need to adjust once I get my 3 month results back...

My vitamins were actually sold to me by the nutritionist from her office.

It's still rare. I've been in doctors offices all over the country and never seen one that had supplements for sale. They sometimes give free samples away. My point is that the majority of doctors are not advocating vitamins post sleeve because there is financial gain...so the advice is based on medical expertise, not profit.

With many other countries having socialized medicene, I didn't want them to have the impression our US doctors prescribe for the purpose of making money...as a general rule.
