Just wondering what you all are doing for exercise now that you've been sleeved? There are so many options, I am curious what my fellow sleevers are doing!

I have tried a little of everything over the past 3 weeks, but finally found something I LOVE! I have always wanted to run, but have been very self conscious. I came across a free walk/run class that meets two times/per week and helps women who walk learn to run. Last week we began with a warm up, then walked 4 minutes, ran 1 minute, walked 4, ran 1, ...continuing for 30 minutes and then stretched. It gives me something to look foward to each week, and motivates me to do some on my own so that I can reach my goal to run a 5K by the end of May with the rest of the ladies.
I tried bootcamp, but my body just isn't ready for that yet. I will try again this summer though.
'Sounds like heaps of fun Tessa'
I am soooo looking forward to a pain relief shot Wednesday,(hip/pelvic joint injury) then it's a walking I will go.woohoo!
Hugs with your name on them have been sent.
Well yesterday my Dad gave me his mountain bike, he loaded it up in the trunk of my car and I zipped to the nearest air pump to fill up the tires. OMG I felt like a kid again. Once I got the tires filled up I was circling the gas station like I was security or something. LOL it was truly awesome. So aside from it being a mens bike hehe I think I've taken a liking to it and will continue to ride around my neighborhood.
Also, this morning I went for a hike at red rock canyon ->
it was absolutely gorgeous out there. I did a pretty moderate hike but let me tell you, I kicked my butt. I'm 18 days post-op so hiking might not have been the best choice just yet. I can't tell if its my stomach or if I over worked my abdominal muscles but there's def some pain in that area. Overall, I'm thinking the outdoors is going to be my thing but I'm also considering some badass kickboxing too. :-)

Wow, great scenery, can I come? haha.Take it easy though, even though you feel great.
Please take it easy! I know that there are so many things I wish I were able to be doing. Almost 2 weeks out, just really gaining some strength back. Today I did the most I've done since surgery. Still limited, still having some stomach pain.
SOOOO jealous of your scenery! It is so beautiful that it looks like a post-card. Thank you so much for sharing!
Again, take it easy and don't over do it!!
Thanks Ladies, You're right. I definitely am going to slow it down a bit, I kinda freaked myself out there. Yikes...I'da been really upset with myself had somthing happened. Feelin much better today tho :-)
I think I'll try again when I'm about 6-7 weeks post-op. For now just some brisk bike riding and walking.
Glad you loved the photo...red rock is one Las Vegas wonder that most people don't know about. lol I guess the lights on the strip are "okay" too. ;-)
Sol
Sol, thank you so much for posting that inspirational picture! I am from the midwest, and scenery like that is the stuff of postcards.
I know that when I did heavy house work, (vacuuming couches, etc) too soon after surgery, it left me with quite a bit of pain and I decided to take it easy. Now that I'm 7 weeks out, I am much more able to do things without pain.
Do take it easy!
Hi Sol, I'm visiting Vegas at the end of this month...for a convention at Mandalay Bay. I just figured I'd pay the fees and work out at their fitness center. How far is the Red Rock Canyon from the strip? Maybe I should just take a cab there and do a little hiking myself one day, hmmm?
Pain is not a good way to decide your exercise plan.
If you wait to be in pain you have already done the damage.
Healing takes time. We are all in a hurry, healing, activities, weight
Loss, whatever. Putting in the time has never been my strong suit.
I used to refuse to visit Disney because I refused to wait in line.
Remember this is serious stff. You will feel better than you are.

I am doing 4 days of exercise a week. I have worked with a trainer, and does not have me very focused on cardio He has me do 25-30 minutes of warm-up, fast walking, cool down, but we are really focused on muscle training. There is a lot of information out there, I recommend getting a trainer for a few weeks, because nobody will have the same needs! And a GOOD trainer will show you some exercises that will be good for your body.

Surgery Date 1/25/2011
Results: TBD!
Thanks Lisa!! Good luck with your work outs ;-)
Diane, no way Jose...I'd never let you take a cab!!! lol
If you are here during the weekend (my days off) then I'd be glad to come pick you up and we can hike together!! You'd love it!! Or you can also get some awesome walking done on the strip...lots to see there too.
Either way keep me posted, I loved to meet you :-)
Good advice Mike.... I wonder when it considered the safe zone to go "all out"?
Sol, I'd love to meet you too...if at all possible. I get in on Sunday afternoon, March 27th, and I have an awards dinner to go to that night (hoping to get gussied up a bit and shock all of my old cronies who haven't seen me in two years). And then I'm booked all day Monday and Tuesday and for dinners both of those nights. Wednesday and Thursday I'll have some free time in the afternoon and might actually be free for dinner (we could share a meal, haha), but Thursday night I have to get to the airport by about 8:00pm to catch a redeye flight back east. I'll be staying at Mandalay Bay. Let me know what your schedule might permit...even if we could only meet for a cup of tea or coffee. Would love to meet you; you seem like such a cool lady!
