You won't get the best nursing care with Dr. Almanza, and you never see the inside of a hospital. His "clinic" is a store front, in a strip mall, right across from a porn shop. You are shipped to a recovery house the next morning to suffer with 7 or 8 others. If you bring a companion, they will send you off to a hotel and somebody "visits" to give you a shot once in awhile. It is stone age medicine, post operatively, but at least the Operating Suite seemed clean and the doctor himself is ultimately qualified. It is the follow up care that sucks. Nevertheless, if you are in relatively good health and have no other serious conditions, like advanced heart disease, go ahead and have it done in a place like Almanza's. A lot of us can't afford any better. I hear Dr. Otriz uses a real hospital, and that would be so much better for you. Just keep an eye out, make certain the nurses use alcohol to clean your IV hub before they inject anything into it, make sure they wash their hands and wear gloves, too. Bring ALL of your own medications, including stuff like Lovenox injections if your regular doctor says you need extra precaution against blood clots. I even suggest you bring your own anti-embolismm stockings, called TED hose, because all Dr. Almanza's staff did was wrap my legs with an ace bandage! I am older and I have heart issues. My cardiologist send Dr. Almanza a letter asking him to take certain precautions with me. It was faxed back to him, signed by Dr. Almanza saying they would follow his recommendations. Well, when I got there, I found out Dr. Almanza's name had been signed by an Assistant, and there was nothing in place there to take those precautions with! They didn't have any Lovenox, TED hose, or the type of Antiboitic my cardiologist recommended, even though they promised they would. It's all about the money with them. Being a seasoned foreign traveller, I anticipated this problem happening, and brought my own Lovenox and Ted hose, and I survived. Some times I wonder how I managed to avoid infection though, because the nurses are not the least bit concerned with Universal Precautions. Oh well. Still glad I had it done. Good luck to you, and I am glad you are going some place other than Dr. Almanza's.
