    Unhappy Question-advice please!!!

Hello I had my sleeve surgery exactly 4 weeks ago Thursday. I am eating soft foods like lil bites of cottage cheese, crab, greek yogurt, string cheese ect. The first 2 weeks following surgery I lost 23 pounds! However, I was just weighed yesterday and I am down only 6 pounds these last 2 weeks. Day of surgery I weighed 438, and down to 409. I am walking most days, for at least 30 minutes. I don't understand why it's not as rapid as most people? They told me that since I am heavier I would lose a bunch fast, however-I'm not. When I eat anything, it's barely more than 4 tiny bites. I usually only eat twice a day, but i was told to bump that up to eating every 3 hours or so-about 5 times a day. Does this really help? What could I be doing wrong?

First thing is don't compare your journey to other people's journey. We are so used to comparing ourselves that it is something that isn't easy to give up. You will drive yourself crazy if you don't!

Second you aren't eating much so eating twice a day puts your body in starvation mode. It will store almost everything you eat because it thinks its starving. If you eat every 3 hours your body doesn't think it's starving and your metabolism will stay up. Also make sure you are drinking enough and getting your protein in!

    Hope this helps!

You are doing a great job! Keep up the good work!

Sounds like your doing great to me! we had our surgery the same day and I'm down 23. But only 2 meals a day? Are you eating at least 60 grams protein? Getting in all your water? Just remember, even if it comes off slow, it's still coming off and you will never regain it again! So hang in there...and put the scale away for a week!

I have to agree with the above statements. Everyone is unique. Get your recommened proteins and water in. I'm inpatient also, but I have to step back and realize I didn't get this way in a few weeks. Your doing great. If you look at the calories your not eating much. Stay positive!

A fellow Ohioan I've not had mine yet, but I've read alot of people saying to try to up your protein intake to shock your body out of a stall. Changing up your exercising routine can also help. Good Luck!

    5 meals a day....
find what works for you but to get your protein it helps to set it up as a scheduled thing, like:
    bfst - 2 oz protein
    snack - 1 oz protein
    lunch - 2 oz protein
    snack - 1 oz protein
    dinner - 2 oz protein
that give you 8 oz of protein for ~56 grams
add a protein drink in there somewhere and you're all set.
at 4 wks out, aim for a good 500 cal a day, especially when you are exercising...
also realize a stall in the first month is not at all unusual -
and, several of us ladies have discovered that right from the get go, we drop lbs only 1/2 the month - it's the hormone thing.... but remember during those stalls your fat cells are moving around and you are reshaping.
29 lbs in one month is pretty darned amazing, I know it's hard to see but it's a lb a day!
And, as they all said, don't compare yourself - your journey is yours and no one elses. We can offer advise based on our journeys but you'll see a pattern in your own soon enough...
    hang in there...

It's funny when we see someone weight loss we think wow, they are doing so well but when it's our own it's never fast enough. It looks to me like you are doing great. I know when I started making a point of eating a little something every 3 hours I started losing a little more.

Bottom line ... you're doing great and just keep plugging along and the weight will keep dropping off.

    Great Job!

You've lost a lot of weight already, congratulations! I do agree with all about eating 5-6 small meals a day, getting your protein in and drinking 64 oz.. Every time I skip meals I actually gain weight. Also, Sleevers have stalls. Almost like clock work. 2,5 weeks out,3,5,9,12 months out. It's most frustrating, but it happens. Best wishes

Thanks everyone for the encouragement and wonderful advice. Gives me such peace of mind!!! I am going to up my fluid intake for sure, I probably only get about 40oz a day. I will start pushing the shakes more too, it's just that I get full of of 2 small drinks but I know I need to get it all in. I think I may put myself on a schedule and make sure I eat every 3 hours. Bf-maybe some greek yogurt-snack crab-lunch tuna-snack laughing cow cheese-dinner chicken...is that how people do this? LOL I am just a lil confused on what to eat, in what order and so forth...

Does your doc have a nutritionist on staff? I was concerned because I did not feel I was losing fast enough and after she learned what I was eating I was told to eat more. I am not supposed to go much under 1000 calories a day. I learned this yesterday and I am finding it hard to get that much in. She assured me that if I would get my protein up and my calorie intake up that I would lose weight faster. I joined "My Fitness Pal" so she can see what I am eating and give me guidance. I would call or email your doc if you are concerned. Do what they tell you to do.
    Best of luck to you
