Default Surgery in one week......second thoughts?

My surgery is scheduled for next Monday and I think I am having second thoughts. I have been on the pre op diet they give you, and mine is pretty liberal from what it sounds. I am reacting pretty well to it and have lost 9 lbs so far. Part of me thinks I can do this, count calories protein etc. That's what we will do after surgery right? I just winder if anyone else has had similar thoughts?

    Thanks

I did not have similar thoughts, but I was expecting to. I ended up losing 10 pounds. But I stopped myself from being excited and thinking that I could go it on my own. Why? Because I've done it before, and eventually I get hungry. And once I get hungry, all of the weight comes back on. I was tired of the yo-yo. So, I needed something permanent.

So, that's my advice. Think about if you'll be able to stick to this "diet" 110% for the rest of your life. If not, then you should have the surgery. If you can think that you can stay hungry the rest of your life....well you're better than I am, but that may be the way to go.

My thought are same as mommabear, however I would like to add:
A diet is temporary = (tempoary weight loss), a sleeve is permanent = (permanent weight loss)
    No guts, no glory!

Thumbs up Re: Surgery in one week......second thoughts?

We are all human and if we were honest i am sure we all doubted our descion if only for a moment. I have been sleeved 18days now and including the 2 weeks pre op diet have lost 15kilo. Glad i didnt doubt my descion too long. I could never have achieved this on my own, god knows i tried many many times. The surgery is not that bad and the post op whilst uncomfortable is bearable. Already starting to get nice compliments and believe me that eases all pain. Stay true to yourself. Kazzie

Thanks for all the advice and thoughts. I do know this is the best choice for me and I will be having surgery. I just needed to vent those sneaky doubts that land in my head I have been fighting my weight for 20 years now and really just want to be healthy for my kids and family and for me!

    6 days and counting!

The pre-op diet is a bit deceptive - I've lost 15lb so far on mine and I do think every so often, "geez im doing well - i can loose all of this weight" but then I remember the consultant saying "this is not a sustainable diet - its a quick fix to reduce the size of your liver" no-one can live on a diet forever - physically and mentally. The sleeve is a much better "tool" to help you achieve your goal. - thats kept me positive for the last 2 weeks and my surgery is on 03/03

Just remember what my nutritionist told me, "only 3 percent of people who have 100 or more pounds to lose can do so successfully and keep it off without weight loss surgery." That was all the convincing I needed! I knew I was in the 97%, and that if I wanted to be successful and keep it off for life, I needed to surgically change my body. I'm so glad I did!

I lost 90lbs via just diet and kept it off for 3 years and then put it all back on over an 18 month period. So I knew I could do it, but I was a ticking time bomb, waiting to explode again. The pre-op diet brought back the memories of me being able to control it via weight and I had the same thoughts again "Do I need surgery, I did it before, I am doing it again" but then I took a good look at myself in the mirror. I was tired of fighting my body. My body WANTED to be 300lbs and I needed to do something that gave me a fighting chance to do the things I knew were right but that helped take the trigger out of my time bomb.
