Default Gastric sleeve vs Gastric bypass

The gastric bypass is the gold standard for treatment for obesity but the gastric sleeve seems to have risen in popularity. Why did you choose to have a gastric sleeve over a gastric bypass and are there more advantages to having a sleeve over the bypass???

I picked the sleeve, because I was having IBS type issues before surgery and just worried that a bypass of that might cause more issues.

Bybass: Too evasive, re-arraingments of internal organs, more downtime, non-fuctioning stomach still in body (ew) and major vitamin deficiencies.
Sleeve: Not as evasive, no re-arrainging of internal organs, less downtime, non-functioning stomach portion removed, digestive process still intact and minimum vitamin deficiencies.

I have read that the surgery has improved and you no longer have major vitamin deficiencies as once thought and for some people it is not as effective as the gastric bypass. Has anyone else also been told this??

The gastric bypass is considered the gold standard in WLS. DEfinitively there is no comparison with LapBAND. Gastric Bypass is a quite complex surgery, and some patients were so heavy that was extremely risky to do it. Gastric sleeve was originally used as step one surgery for these patients. Along the way they realized that patient would reach similar results. Right now the bypass surgey will let you lose up to 80- 90% of your excess body weight (just for th esurgery) while the sleeve 65-80. However there is a lack of long term data published in peer journal on sleeve. I am sure that this data will cahnge in the near future. In order to be successful tho in both case you need to stick to a program and you will loose all the weight you need to lose.
What make me incline to the sleeve is the fact that doing an endoscopy later in the years will be easier. Also the sleeve can always be transformed in a bypass later on. I should finilize my choice in two weeks, but again I am prone to the sleeve.
    Hope this can help

I chose the sleeve because there was no re-routing of the intestines, rarely dumping syndrome, less evasive, no malabsorption issues, the portion of your stomach is removed not left there in the body and rarely vitamin deficiencies...
