3 weeks till surgery an still no income tax...

So my surgery date is March 27th.... I'm have surgery in Mexico due to no insurance so I'm self pay.... I sent my income tax out at the end of Jan.... Hoping by time my date got here I would have it. I'm getting so worried now that I still have not received it. I'm praying it gets here I time. I have already started my diet an exercise program I pray I won't have to delay the surgery! I'm so ready for it!!!!

hey i know some peoples taxs were going to take a little longer if you did them early cause uncle sam came up with some new irs programs so they had to re run everyone who did them early wich add like 2-3 weeks on top of your normal 2-3 weeks did mine in feb. got them in two weeks my mom did hers in jan. and just got hers last week so hopefully ull see them this week..good luck on your surgery i have mine on the 26th

The IRS is running WAY behind this year. They are always running behind at the beginning of tax season, but usually by this time around they've worked the kinks out and gotten caught up. This year it just didn't happen. Part of it was them rescheduling the pay out day. In the 11 years since I started doing tax prep, it has ALWAYS been Friday until this year when it moved to Wednesday. They also "lost" about 90,000 returns the first day of tax season. (Although my boss thinks it was closer to 150,000). It took them time to recover all the lost data. I did my return at the beginning of February and my refund was a week late arriving. I've dealt with upset clients since tax season started, and I tell them all the same thing...the IRS pays when they pay.

FYI: the IRS didn't come up with new tax programs. What happens ever year is that Congress votes on tax breaks/budget issues, and the IRS has to get forms in place to accommodate whatever Congress says. This year for the first time ever, there were no new tax breaks so they didn't even have to have new forms in place. So this year they actually started accepting full returns with all forms the first day of tax season. Usually there are one or two forms that have to be updated, so we have to wait until we can submit those. Last year it was educator's credits, mortgage interest/real estate taxes, and education credits. This year, ALL forms were ready the first day. The IRS has no excuse!

How did youfile? We e-filed ours and got our refund in about 10 days.

Yes, you can check the IRS website or call them to get an update on your tax return status. I am sorry you are having a hard time. I bet you'll get it soon.

You CAN check the IRS website. I forgot to add that earlier. Go to Internal Revenue Service, then click on "Where's my refund?" on the right side of the screen. Then on the next screen find the same button, still on the right side of the screen. I think it's after the number 3 step. Then you have to put the SSN of the first person listed on the return (either you or your husband), your filing status (married filing joint, single, head of household, etc), and the exact amount of your refund rounded off to the nearest whole dollar. If you chose to get your refund direct deposited, it will tell you the exact date to expect it so long as your bank doesn't put it on hold.
