Hi all getting sleeved on 3-20-12 did anyone have pain and discomfort afterwards that needed like a morphine pump? How long after sx did you go back to work? Don't worry I will have more random questions as they pop into my head!
I had a lot of pain after the surgery from the gas that they use for the laporoscopy. I also had a hernia repair at the same time as my sleeve so that was uncomfortable as well. I stayed in the hospital a second day because of my discomfort. They gave me the pain medicine through my IV but I am not sure what of was. It took me a while to get back on my feet again. I couldn't do much for the first 2 weeks. It was so totally worth all of the discomfort right after surgery. There were 2 things that really helped me and they were to get up and walk as soon as I could after surgery (helps to move the gas around so it can be absorbed) and to take the pain meds when you start to get uncomfortable. I waited too long and taught myself a lesson.
The first few days I had the most discomfort, after a week I didn't really need anything for pain. It really gets better everyday.
Good luck!
I had surgery early in the morning, used the pain pump the first day. They took the IV out first thing the second day. I had hernia repair too, but the only real pain I had was the upper left incision, and that didn't start until after I got home. If they give you a small pillow, USE IT. They'll show you what to do with it. And I did take pain meds to sleep about the first week, but I am a VERY restless sleeper, and tossing and turning was difficult with the pain in that one incision.
My sleeve will be on Saturday. I've hasd lots of other surgeries, including a lap band and hernia repair. They were by far, the least painful surgeries ever. When I get my sleev, my lap band will be coming out, so I expect to have some extra soreness where the port will have to be removed. I would not have needed a pain pump for either of those surgeries, though. I was off oral pain meds within a couple of days. The quicker you can get off them the better--prevents constipation.
