Unhappy Frustrated! I know it's silly, but I'm sure we've all felt this way...

I'm down 50 pounds now. In the big picture, I'm absolutely ecstatic. I'm thrilled. When was the last time I lost ANY weight and kept it off for more than a few weeks? Probably never in the last 10 years or so. 50 pounds is half of my goal, and as of today I'm 4 months post-op. Really, I know I have nothing to complain about.

But, this is where I need you guys to talk me down. I'm mad at myself because I feel like I should be losing FASTER. Isn't that crazy? Before, I couldn't lose more than 2 pounds without absolutely depriving myself, and now I'm upset because I feel like I should be down by at least another 10 pounds at this point.

Please, talk some sense into me!

I can't say I don't feel exactly the same way, and yes it is crazy! I feel great, I know I'm doing everything right, and I'm so impatient! I'm not sure why we do this or how to stop it, but I'm with ya!

I think that we are so impatient because for the first time we have a chance of really succeeding and we are that much more in a hurry to get to the ultimate success of reaching our goal weight. But it is a journey... a process... and we have to embrace the roller coaster ride that we are on. And everyone is different so we have to be careful and not compare ourselves to other's success and get disappointed about our own. (Even though that is extremely hard to do.. I'm guilty). I just keep reminding myself that progress is not gaining....

One thing that discourages me... bothers me the most is that I see people who start at what I weigh right now... and I have already lost 75 pounds. If I could have started at this weight I would be almost at my goal right now. So because I was heavier, my journey is longer... that is tough some days.

Looks like you've already lost weight faster than average, which is 10 lbs. a month. Some people DO lose slower than that for metabolic reasons, etc. but they're still happy to be losing weight at all. Just thank your lucky stars you are where you are; you'll get there.

I think you are doing a fantastic job. and yes I do understand you very well, it must be little frustrating to feel like you are loosing slower than other. But I think (and I hope to remember that when I will be in your shoes) I think it is better to not loose so fast, it gives you body time to adjust, to build up tone with your fitness activity and I think this is so important. As working in progress said that this is happening because I see it is working! just do what you are doing and be proud of every single achievement.

I hear you. But if it is on any help I think everyone make this math game in their mind. I am 288 (arhhh) and two year ago I was 40 lb lighter. 4 years ago 60 lb lighter and when I see people that starts at the weight I just get frustrated. But You are doing so good and at the end it does not matter at what weight we start, it matter that we decided to do it and we are doing it. We are finally changing our lifestyle, we are not living that hell of being constantly feeling underwater and not living and be depressed and frustrated. Not anymore. you must look already so healthier, pretty, you must for sure do so many more things you couldn't do anymore. I am so happy for you and so inspired by all of you.

I totally understand!!! I am happy to a point that the weight is coming off slower so the skin has a chance to go back slower, but i wish it were faster too. I need to add more exercise and that should help. I am so happy I did this surgery though. I am able to funtion normally and eat anywhere. It is so nice to only be able to eat a small amount and be happy. I know I could lose faster if I ate less carbs. I don't eat bad carbs just veggies. I asked someone their diet and there is no way I could do it. they only eat about 10-15 carbs a day. I feel awful in full ketosis. I am not losing any hair yet either and bet that the person eating that low of carbs is.
I am just going to keep on doing what I am doing .
    Hang in there.

I am real close to you. Surgery 10/14. I am down #54. Have been in a stall for 4 weeks. Finally broke the stall today. Started exercising is what I did. I think we are right on with the weight loss! Keep up the good work!

I know what you mean, but i think if you look at it this way.... how much of your "excess" weight have you lost? You have lost 50% of what you want in 4 short months - wow, that is awesome!!!! I think most people would be estatic over that progress, so maybe rather then just counting pounds, look at percentages. My NUT told me that a person is on track if they lose 50% of their excess within the first 6 months - so you are ahead of that schedule!

It is hard though because everybody is different.... typically younger people, men (and the lucky?) just lose faster - I am sure there are many who are envious of your progress.

I have lost 55# which feels just amazing, however I have a long long ways to go - it is easy to get caught up in thinking about what is in front of me rather then celebrating the progress.
308# 12/1/2011 Start of Preop Diet
300# 12/12/11 Lapband to Sleeve revision
    158# Feb 2013 - GOAL lost 150# 14 months post op
150# 10/14/2013 - Plastics Dr Sauceda in Monterrey Mexico; removed 5.5# of skin
140# Apr 2014 - maintaining 168# weight loss currently. Very happy with my sleeve and plastics results!

I feel exactly like you. I read all the other posts and people are losing way more. I am definitely happy with this and have no regrets except that I am not losing like many other people. Plus I am so frustrated because I have been in a stall for a month now!! YIKES. I know I am doing all the right things and tell myself that this is normal but those long stalls are a killer and they make you ask yourself if this is it. I am I done losing? And although I am thrilled with my weight loss I want to lose more.

I feel the same way. BikerBabie, I was just 3 days behind you at Dr. Almanza's and I too have been in a stall for a month! Maybe that's just how it happens. I too ask myself, "Is this it?", but then I watch some of my youtube buddies and they all went thru it too, and went on to goal, yay!!!

Don't sweat it, I think we are ALL doing much better than pre-op. I know for a fact I could have never been as successful without the sleeve. Best of luck to everyone here! xo

I'm with everyone here - I feel like I'm not losing fast enough, and then on the other hand, I feel so lucky to have this helpful tool (sleeve) to help me on my path to getting healthy. I know it took a long time to put on all of my weight, so I have to take time and care taking it off as well. I need to celebrate more of my NSVs.
