Default Ok, I'm needing some words of wisdom!

Ok, so I am about 3.5 months out from surgery. I feel great! I lost 20 pre surg, then I have lost an additional 40 since. I track all my food religiously! I have my fitness pal on my phone, and I am obsessed with tracking. My calories are always between 800-1000 (40g fat, 50g carbs, 60-80g protein).

I have had several 'stalls' and I know to expect them, however....I haven't lost anything in about a month, and I'm getting really discouraged. I seem to be a slower loser, and I can handle that, but when the scales don't move at all...whew. I'm a really positive person (the glass is always half full), but this is testing me!

I don't exercise every night, but I have a pretty physical job. I am on my feet and walking out in the oil fields of west TX almost every day. Plus I have a 2yo and a 4yo, so I'm generally very active.

Please tell me this will pass...this month has been torture, and I'm ready to see the scales move again. Does anyone think I need more calories? In the past it seems like if I add some more calories it bumped the stall into gear and I started losing again...and yes, I drink all my water and take my vitamins.

    Any thoughts?

From what my doctor told me I think your calorie intake is about right, my doctor did stress exercise specifically weights to make sure my body didnt start burning muscle instead of fat. He also told me to stay away from carbs and sugars so most of the time the only carbs I get are the few that are in my protien shakes, and some of my shakes have o carbs and zero sugar. But if for what ever reason your body is in starvation mode it wont want to burn the fat, maybe your body is still getting adjusted, have you talked to your doctor ?

Well my doc is in Dallas and I'm in WTX, but I have called and spoke with the nutritionist. He just says that what I'm doing sounds good, and keep at it. Not really helpful in specific questions.

I do stall a lot, right now I been for about 2 weeks without losing a lb,I do work out everyday . I am not discourage at all. I know it will pass.Be positive !!
I noticed that when I "snack" a lot I have pretty long stalls of 3-4 weeks. If I only have 1 snack or so a day, if I exercise 6 times a week,it helps a little.
Maybe you will need to increase a little your exercise ? to about 6 times a week? A little of cardio for about 30 minutes or so. It going to pass,be positive and have faith!!

My Dr. gave me slightly different numbers and I will say that the exercise part is key. Your protein is about right, 70-90g, 64 oz of fluid a day, try doing 600-900 cals a day, less then 40g of carbs and less then 30g of fat. Those are the numbers I was given. I've also heard people on here say they went back on a liqiud diet for a week when they had stalled and that helped jump start their wieght loss again.

40g of fat seems like a lot, maybe try to reduce that part and see what happens. I thought 30g or less was the typical daily allotment.

The best advice that I have been given is to change things up. Your body has a natural set point weight, for some of us it is very high. Your body will conserve energy to try and get you back to that set point. Thank goodness the surgery helps us. Perhaps your activity and food intake has become too normal and your body has adjusted. I don't doubt that walking through oil fields and chasing little ones is active, but maybe try to add something. A yoga DVD 2-3 per week or interval training. Something to kick start the ol' metabolism. I also agree the fat may be a bit on the high side. Bringing that down 25% will also reduce calories.

Thanks everyone for responding! I will definitely take a look at the fat intake, and take my treadmill for a spin tonight and see how I do!

Shugaplum - I'm in the same boat. I too am like you - glass half full type of gal, but it sure is tough to be positive when the weight doesn't come off like we want it to!

ever heard of extra calorie intake to break your stall? i do it if my stalls go too long.. i am on my feet all day, but i don't exercise. but i stick to my strict eating regiment. but taking in extra calories breaks my stalls.
