    Default Today was difficult

I had my sleeve surgery 4 days ago and today was tough. I can't get my required liquids in, I'm honestly hungry, hurt and am worried if I had made the right decision...everyone on this forum is so positive and helpful, has anyone felt like me before?

It really does get easier every day that passes. On about my 8th day, I was getting around very well and things were going good. I had no issues drinking my liquids, just hang in there.

There hasn't been a day where I regretted my decision, you will get there. Just remember you had major surgery, some people heal slower than others. Keep us posted on your journey!

You had MAJOR surgery. Some discomfort is to be expected. I personally had all those feeling and more... Just carry a bottle so you can sip water throughout the day. It will get easier once your body has had a chance to recover. Dont let it get you down too much. Were all here for you. I came here for help after my surgery and you will find tons of people that can relate to everything you have and will experience in the week/months, years to come. I hope that is some comfort.

I had trouble with my liquids too. But I just sipped all day and got what I could. After a few days I was hungry too but I think it was from being a little dehydrated and having acid on my stomach. What I thought was hunger never got really bad, I think the acid made me think my tummy was almost growling. It sure felt like hunger. I had another problem, the shakes made me sick so I couldn't use them to help. I sipped milk a lot in the beginning. It helped. My pain was from gas and I recognized it so I didn't worry. If yours is from surgery it may take a few more days. It was totally worth it. I feel so much better! Iim sorry its been hard on you, pray you have a better recovery.

I was unhappy and doubting my choice for the first couple of months. I wasn't happy at all other than the weight loss. I didn't think I would ever eat again. Now I'm almost 3 months out and I'm not unhappy about it anymore. I can eat pretty much whatever I want just really small amounts and I need to eat really slow or it hurts like crazy. I did go back into the hospital about 5 days after surgery because like you I couldn't drink. So I did 3 days back in hospital on an IV and Protonix a PPI. Acid reflux makes you think you are hungry because usually we associate an uncomfortable feeling in our stomachs as hunger. So even if you didn't have acid reflux before you might now and it's tricking you into thinking you are hungry. Good luck but be careful and talk with you Dr. right away you don't want to get dehydrated that's serious so call him.

I felt exactly the way you felt at 4 days out. When I woke up from the surgery I said what the hell did I do. And for a short moment I had some regrets. But you know what I am a little over 3 weeks out and I can say today I have no regrets. I am losing the inches and look great and I am starting to feel better. It is amazing on how the transition from regret to thankfullness happens over night. I didn't start feeling better until about 5 days ago. I was a slow starter. I think my pain lasted 2 weeks and couldn't get liquids in...it hurt to drink...could barely drink. Now I can actually take a drink and not a very small sip. I am eating soft food...like fish...pureed shrimp...little mashed potatoes...so when you hit your stage you will start to feel better. Please just hang in there. I was JUST like you. I am proof to tell you it does get better just like everyone says and you will be able to be where I am and tell others who had our same problems that things will look up. So please hold on and take it one day at a time.

I felt the same way you did. I even ended up at the Dr in tears because I thought I had made a mistake. I ended up talking with a few of the people that work at the office about how I felt . You will not regret your decision, it gets better every day.

Just like with any surgery, it is tough in the beginning. It gets A LOT EASIER after the first month is over. I really felt worn out and tired for awhile after surgery, but now that I've lost 100 lbs. I feel SO MUCH BETTER! It IS WORTH IT!!! You can do it!

I can but echo the others. It will get better. It is major surgery. Try PPI meds to help the acid, which is most likely what that "hungry" feeling is...
I can add to try warm herbal tea. I drank Peppermint tea at body temp exclusively for the first 2 wks, it was the only way I could get liquids down. Water was way too "hard" and it didn't go down well for weeks.
And as for buyer's remorse? Perfectly normal and expected.
It's not a walk in the park at first, but it will get better and in about 4 or 5 months it will be business as usual except for eating small amounts and having to buy new clothes constantly
Best NSV - fitting on a kid's amusement park ride with my 4 yr old grandson!
CFIDS =Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) Also dx with post-bariatric reactive hypoglycemia; and chronic gastritis (both sleeve complications). Permanently disabled.
Start weight 335, down to 218, up during gastritis. Have accepted there is no way to lose it with my hypoglycemia. Current weight 260. Currently doing 10 day sleeve reset and determined to get back down to my post surgical weight or close to it.

God bless your heart! Your body is still adjusting to a very significant change! I have not yet been sleeved but I already anticipate having a mental breakdown a few days afterwards after reading these forums. It seems quite common to get 'buyers remourse' within the first week due to the trauma of change. Even though you know it is coming I am guessing it is a very different story when it is done and you are dealing with it. It has me scared as well.

But I also have read extensive stories that after those first few weeks you will be so happy with your choice. When the stress has let down and you see the silver lining on that dark cloud you will be at peace with your choice. Your health will be better, your pounds will go down, and your satisfaction and happiness will go up. Hang in there for the next few days. it WILL get better. God is with you, we are with you, and this day too will pass. I will keep you in my prayers!
