Default 3 days post-surgery......Is this going to be worth it????

Surgery went well. Came home yesterday. The gas pain is the worst of it. I wish it would work its way out for good. I do walk. Scale really hasn't gone down or as little as I have had over the last four days, disappointing. Need some encouragement that this is going to be worth it.

I had surgery on Wednesday... DON"T weigh yourself!! you got all pumped full of fluids with those IV bags hanging on you!! Yes it will be worth it. Just do what you need to do right now... walk sip breathe!!! I haven't had any gas pains really, but I was in shit shape for 24 hours after the surgery from the anesthesia and the anti nausea meds to keep me from puking my guts up... which is what anesthesia does to me!
But I'm home and happy and we are on our way to being HEALTHY AND HAPPY!! Keep your eye on the light at the end of the tunnel. I promise its NOT a train

I had surgery on 12/27/11. So far I've lost 30 lbs. I am pretty happy w/ my results. I can eat solids, and pretty much what I want to. I cannot eat roast or pasta. Have had trouble w/ those. I think once you see some weight come off, you will be happy. Give it at least 2 weeks before you make up your mind. You will feel better in as little as a week, and you will feel great in two!

    Good Luck

I think Theresa is right. Currently you are probably still swollen and full of fluids. I wish you the best of luck! Keep us updated

Everything will be okay. Our weight wasn't gained in a day...and it won't be lost in a day. Stay focused because I actually gained 7 lbs post op due to all the fluids, etc from surgery. Trust me the weight comes off at it's own pace, but moreso inches will Fall Off!! Stay off the scale and try to weigh yourself maybe once a week. As for the gas...mine didn't subside until day 5 and miraculously "the world changed" and I felt great!

Give it time...it's all worth it. Baby steps to a happy new life!

I had my surgery on Monday and weighed 257 before reporting to the hospital. I finally got home on Thur with 20lbs gained from all of those IV bags. But not worried about it, as I know it’s not fat, but water weigh gain. I had a couple of complications and was on the table for 4 /12 hours. Then spent the night in recovery. I was very happy that when I wake up I was not in a lot of pain. Even with 10 new wholes in my tummy. Yes I look like a pin couch in. I did not have the gas pain a lot of folks talk about, but the left should blade did show up on Weds out of the blue.

But it good to be home and sleep in my bed! Can you pass the water bottle?

Your only 3 days right now, but before you know it you will be 3 months out. Stay off the scale for now. Sip, sip, sip, walk , walk ,walk. the gas will go soon. Just keep doing all you need to do to heal..
    Hang in there!!

I've been very lucky to have no problems so far...the gas was def the worst part...the way I look at it...you have a new tool and just like anything new...you have to learn how to use it...if this is a tool for life...then a couple of days into the rest of your life is a short time. Good luck...its hard not being in control of something (good or bad) that you've had control of all your life....I'm sure you'll do great!

    Hi Bonboun,
I had mine 01/12 and I hurt like hell for the first 2 days.My nurse at the recovery house, I think his name was Seveno, told me that when the stomach is normal before surgery that it spasms very fast all of the time but when it is cut like ours that the spasms slow down and become very intense. That was what hurt me the worst plus I had a VERY hard time expelling the gas.I walked A LOT and don't be shy to tell them when you are in pain.the third day I felt so much better that I went shopping.UGH watch out it's a tourist trap!LOL It's been a month a 35 pounds down. Also get in the hot shower when you get worked up.It calms you down and seems to relieve the tension so the pain is less.Don't worry about your dressings.they will replace them when you get out.Good luck darlin!!
