hi everyone. i am suffering extreme hair loss. About half my hair has fallen out. This is no exaggeration.
I am not worried about finding a replacement as I am a wig seller. I would like to know if anyone else suffered extreme hair loss.
I havent had extreme, but I can tell my hair is thinning. Its definately freaking me out. I read up about it online. Im lacking in my protein which I need to work on. But I also started taking Biotin everyday, 5000 mgs. Ive been told it will get worse around 3-6 months. Hopefully not, but fingers crossed
I lost a lot at about month 4 & 5. I took biotin and protein from day 1. I started using rogain for women and started taking centrim silver for women and about 3 weeks it stopped. Not sure if it was the rogain, centrum or it just decided to quit but I am sure glad it did. now at month 8 it is coming back in. I'm still taking the centrum.
I normally go through a molting season, but I can say my hair is coming out in greater amounts than normal. I just came up on 5 months out. The hair loss started at about 3 months. I'm at normal levels on all my protein, vitamins, and minerals. I hear it's normal and it grows back in.
I'm good about getting my protein in but all this talk of hair loss had me reaching for my Boitin, I have to get better about taking it everyday.

Protein and Biotin
I posted this in another thread, but hopefully this can be informational here, too.
I have had really, really thin hair for years. I mean REALLY thin (as in see my scalp, just thin whisps up top, male pattern baldness type hair loss).
But my hair has actually gotten thicker in the past two months.
First, I think I eat more protein now than before surgery, so that's helpful.
I now take a multi (which I wasn't always so diligent about pre-surgery)
I also am now taking
B-12 5000 mcg
B Complex
Biotin 5000 mcg
Inositol 500 mg
Gelatin cap 1300 mg (x 2)
The B vitamins and biotin are well known to help hair. The Inositol is a plant supplement that is also supposed to be helpful with hair, and is normally helpful with something like PCOS among other things (and those with PCOS usually have hair issues). The gelatin doesn't help more hair grow, but it helps the hair you have to be thicker and stronger.
As far as taking vitamins and supplements immediately post-op, the multi is chewable (Centrum Silver); the B-12 is sublingual; the biotin, inositol and gelatin are all capsules with powder that you can pull apart and dissolve. My B Complex is a tab, but it is also available in liquid form.
I also take chewable calcium citrate and Viactiv (or generic equivalent). It's like a chocolate treat that's good for me!
I used to have to clean the shower drain at least twice a week or the water would back up from all the hair. Now I haven't cleaned it in two months.
