Don't be so hard on yourself. You didn't become overweight overnight, and you won't lose it overnight, or change your ways overnight. Tomorrow is a new day. Tell yourself that you will do this because you can and that you won't let this beat you!!
Tomorrow will be better. I am on day 7 of my preop diet. It gets easier. Day 1 and 3 I was going to die and not be able to do it. I do get the headaches to, but I'm giving up the caffiene right now too. It does get easier!! Just remember in a few days when I'm not at my best, that I need your pep talk too!!!

The pre-op liquid diet is tough and it is a bit of a test, but it is to shrink your liver to make the surgery go as smooth as possible. I was at my doctors today and to have my staples removed and we were talking about the surgery. I was told that the doctor can tell immediately if someone has not been following the liquid diet and he has just sewn them right back up and stopped the surgery. I don't think a one time lapse will affect it, but definitely not worth the risk if the option is to get operated on for no reason.

    Good luck and stay strong.

Its true -- the purpose is to shrink your liver because they will be working underneath it.

I had a lapband in 2007 at 301 lbs. I ended up being on the pre-op for three weeks because my surgery kept getting delayed over a technicality. And despite only one cheat (the SECOND time they woke me up to tell me the surgery hadn't been performed!! so I had a BURGER on the way home!) -- my liver was still so large and unwieldy that the normally 30 min. surgery took 2.5 hrs. And the dr told my husband if I hadn't already faced so many disappointments, he would have post-poned the surgery!

So this time I was a little freaked as I only had 10 days on it, but evidently being 30 lbs lighter, my liver wasn't a nuisance.

Don't beat yourself up over it. Just get back on track and know that you're hard work now, is only smoothing the path down the road.

Lap-Band removed and revised to Sleeve on 2/10/11

You can all do it! And the rest of us are here cheering you on! What is a few days of hunger when you are going to change your life for the better very soon...and trust me, you will not be hungry after the surgery! And once your tummy heals, you might get a little hungry at mealtimes, but you are satisfied with so little food. This is amazing!

WOW - am I glad I went here today! I meet with my surgeon, etc. on Monday and the pre-op diet is going to be a huge challenge for me, but at least I know what can happen if I don't follow it. I'm worried because following a diet much beyond a few days hasn't exactly been my strong suit no matter how determined or desperate for the change. I have to cook for the gentleman I care for all day, every day til my surgery. I think he'll be losing a little weight as well soon. This will show me just how badly I want to go through this process, I guess. Thanks for all the insight.

You guys can do it and you will

I lost 18kgs in the 3 weeks before my op and the liason nurse was saying that they have had ppl turn up for the op who haven't lost any weight though the swear that they have followed the pre-op diet and she said you know that they are lying

The point is if you are going to go through the op plus all the other appointments before and after, time off work (and we all work be it at home or out of home) ect why cheat for those 2-4 weeks before hand ???

The opti-fast or whatever shakes you are having is to strip fat away from the liver which in turn makes it more pliable and when it is moved there is less risk of any damage to the liver which can have serious consequenses.

You are all lucky that you have found this support forum before your ops so use the support and friendship from ppl here to help you and if you have cravings/pangs drink a glass of water, go for a small walk, read a book, chew on some chewing gum, come on here and you will find that the feelings will pass plus the water is good for you lol
