Default anatomy 101 for this surgury.

Ok pardon my lack of knowledge of the body but i was thinking. Lets say you have cut on your finger, and after time it heals itself and closes up and after a few weeks you didnt even know it existed. Is it the same for this stomach? Like does the stomach heal it self or is it forever held together by staples. I know the staples are needed initially but do they serve a purpose. Lets say after 8 months or a year if you had them removed the stomach would be normal as it was before the operation just a lot smaller. Thanks for the anatomy class lol

Well you wouldn't ever remove the staples because you'd recreate an opening by doing so. My doc told me the staples stay in forever but the stomach heals up around them.

You will have a scar that heals over the staples. Best wishes

Yep, I wondered that same thing at first. Have you ever watched the surgery on You Tube? The staples are so different from regular skin staples. They actually look kinda like a zipper (at least to me!)

If you would like to, watch this. It shows you a surgery from beginning to end.

The staples are pretty much the same as skin staples just much smaller and put in evenly due to the GIA or TIA staplers we use in surgery. You stomach heals over and around it, but if you ever get an X-ray or CT scan of the abdomen they will always see your staple line on it.

    Trust me--I'm a surgeon

I just had an abdominal CT and an x-ray of my abdomen and didn't see a thing. I will have to ask the doc to let me see it again.
