    Unhappy What I miss most

    Hi family,
I'm having a sort of down day today. Some would think what I miss most is some high calorie food or drink. This is not the case. Actually, I am doing quite well with my liquids into my second week, and I feel the third week will fly by before moving on the pureed on. week four. The thing I miss most is sleeping on my stomach. I absolutely LOVE my sleep and I am used to sleeping any way I want which is mostly on my stomach with my pillow wrapped in my arms around my head. occasionally on my side. Since surgery of house I've had to kind of guard my stomach so I spend a lot of time doing that and not really restfully sleeping. I get uncomfortable sleeping on my side after a while so I have to make the conscious effort to really wake up flip sides carefully and find another position. Then, of course try to drift back off to sleep. I do this several times a night and most times I just stay up because I find I am no longer sleepy, and this is after a few hours. Someone, anyone family, TELL ME HOW LONG THIS LASTS?! I expect not to be totally comfortable just 10 days out from surgery and I figure I have a little while to wait, I just need something to look forward to besides the joy of eating semi solid food again, lol!

    Doll,
I also had problems to sleep right after surgery. I think I started to sleep well again about 15 days after surgery. I would recommend to wait until a month to sleep on your stomach again.
I does get better. But I really understand what you're going through....I thought at some point I was not going to be able to sleep well again.
    Take care!

I also am a stomach sleeper, couldn't sleep on my side because it hurt. After about a week I couldn't take it anymore and forced myself to sleep on my stomach. After about 2-3 minutes it didnt hurt anymore and I was fine. Been doing it ever since. Went for my 5 week check up yesterday and he said that was fine to do. AND I lost 24 pounds total so far!!!!yippee

Yay! I will try that tonight. I had yet another miserable night last night and maybe slept for two hours the whole time. I'm just tired of being tired, at this rate I feel like I will never get back to work. In the emergency room there's no room for tired mistakes! Congrats on that AWESOME weight loss! So proud of you and you are doing great! I pray my follow-up goes that well. My surgeon let me know at my 1 week post op visit that he expects at my next visit (which should be eight weeks post op), that I should've dropped 55 pounds !

I had problems sleeping in the first 3 weeks or so after surgery too...not because I couldn't sleep on my stomach though...I just kept waking up and couldn't get back to sleep. My nutritionist told me it was because my metabolism was speeding up by eating numerous times throughout the day and taking in more protein. She said it happens to some of us. I did get back into a regular sleep routine though, somewhere around the 4th week. Best wishes to you Dallas! You are doing fine...keep it up!

I am also a stomach sleeper - and found I was sleeping mostly on my stomach after 3-4 weeks - my incision above my belly button was about 2 inches long, and that incision hasn't healed quite right - so it would occasionally bug me if I tried to sleep on my stomach - but it was just usually if my shirt or the sheet rubbed it the wrong way. You'll be sleeping in no time! Good Luck!

Wow! I didn't even consider that sleeping on my stomach would be a problem after surgery. I'm willing to force myself to sleep on my back in order to have the other benefits of the surgery. Are sleeping pills OK after surgery?

Thanks a bunch Morefit! That post is coming right on time! I tried my stomach last night and didn't seem to have many problems with it, but I STILL found that I could only sleep solidly for two hours and then I was wide awake. Your post gives me another perspective and it too makes since! I guess that is my case also. Well, I do hope it passes very soon, like I said, I ADORE my sleep, lol!

    Lovinglife,
I know its so crazy the simple things! But you are right the trade off is definitely more rewarding! I don't know about the sleeping pills though. I know we are not to swallow anything bigger than a baby aspirin but I guess if the sleeping pill can be crushed its ok. The best sleep I got after surgery, (which wasn't great at all) was induced by the liquid pain meds they gave me. Which I stopped taking after the second day home, turns out it was giving me pretty bad night terrors and I was scaring the shit out of my 4 year old, lol! Go figure.
