Does everyone wear an ace wrap or girdle after surgery? This forum was the first place I heard of it. Is it routine? How comfortable is it?? How long you wear it and what is its purpose?
I was actually wondering if I could wear a compression like garment, not immediately after surgury, but after about a month or so. I have a Kymara body shaper, which I LOVE, and wear under some of my clothing to smooth out my bumps and lumps.

I woke up with an abdominal wrap on after surgery. I was told to wear it for a couple weeks to help support my stomach muscles. I've been wearing it for three months. I swear that it has helped the integrity of my stomach muscles. I have very little loose skin. I also wear it for the added support it gives me. I have been thinking about switching over to a compression tank top as an alternative.
I think it's wise for the first week or two because it supports you if you sneeze or cough. After that, it's personal preference.
When you have lipo, a tummy tuck, or hernia surgery, most docs put you into one, from what I have read. So, I bought one to wear since I am having my hiatal hernia repaired at the same time. I also have compression tanks to wear, if the wrap that I bought feels too tight.
I was given one at the hospital. I was told to wear it only when walking to support my stomach. My doctor said not to wear it when sitting or laying as it can restrict your breathing. I wore if for about a week after surgery. I found it really helpful when my stomach was sore, but now I find it annoying and itchy.
Post sleeve, post 2 c-section I was in a binder for support. I wore it for 3-4 weeks after each surgery and I do feel it helped decrease pain, and helped my stomach heal better. But you have to keep it snug but not tight, too tight can decrease blood flow to your bowels and stomach. If is supports you, it's a great thing.
