I will be 37 years old on Feb. 7th. My husband and I desperatly want a baby..I'm 6 weeks out..

My doctor told me I needed to wait a year. If I do that I'm 38, by the time I have the baby (if I can get pregnant) I will be 39!
Any words of wisdom, personal experience, would really help. I have had no complications and have lost 33 pounds in 6 weeks. I would like to get down to 140 at least before pregnancy..
What do you all think?

I know you want to have this baby soon, but please follow docs advice on this one. I read that your baby can serioulsy be effected by poor nutrition if you have the baby before your body has adjusted to the sleeve and you've worked out proper nutrition. I think it would be counter productive if you go ahead and get pregnant and then have serious complications with you or baby because you didn't wait. I know a girl who I went to school with who wanted a baby so bad and didn't get pregnant till she was 40 and then she was blessed with twins! Hang in there, I don't know what it is like to have to wait on this. I have been through it with friends and I know it's painful and you had surgery to make your dream a reality. But please follow docs orders on this one. Hugs to you.

I had surgery to have a healthier pregnancy my dr also sd to wait a yr and we r gonna listen i wanna give my body the year to drop enough weight and adjust to the new lifestyle changes i am currently back on birth control to b sure we dont get pregnant early but at 1 yr out they r garbage and looking forward to being smaller healthier and having a cute baby bump lol

Just take solace knowing after a year you can hammer it home as much and as unprotected as you want.....That would be a great motivator for me anyway.
Seriously listen to your DR I promise he knows best in this situation and then I look forward to wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy a year from now.

I had my first child at 29, then had 2 more at 38 and 39. There were no complications with either one, and the only difference was that my ob-gyn monitored me more closely b/c of my age. Good luck; follow your Dr.'s advice and wait. It should turn out fine!

I agree you need to wait and give your body some time to heal and adjust, but "one year" is a rough guidline... I.e. you might be fine at 10 months or not ready until 14 (kind of like that "100 pounds overweight" mark the insurance companies use to decide whether to pay for WLS!).

Since you already are confident you want to get down to 140 first, just hold off thinking about it until you get there. Weight loss is great in the beginning but will slow down a lot after the first month or two (or three for lucky people). So it could take you 2-6 months to get there. In the meantime, ask your doctor or do some research on the "healing" and "adapting" part - see if there are some "markers" you can look for that indicate your body is "ok"... I dont know what they are, but maybe there is a "leak test" type thing the doctor can do to check the physical healing (i dont mean check for leaks, I mean like a scope or something? I dont know either!). Just some concrete things to help you know what you are waiting for... But your doctor is looking out for YOUR health as well as your baby's, so best to really listen to him. That doesnt mean dont ask a ton of questions and make him explain WHY though! Just dont sit and wait for your one year anniversary date thinking the day before you are not ready and the day after its all a go... that line is somewhat arbitrary!

Fantastic answer Tabby. I concur. Doctors know best and one year won't make any difference when you're snuggling that bundle. Remember too that, in the mean time, practice makes perfect.
