    Default Eating/Drinking help pleaseeeeee

I am just starting the mushy food stage of the diet. You know how you can't drink 1/2 hour before eating and 1/2 hour after eating? Well, how does that figure in with what they tell you about constantly drinking? When I stop drinking to wait the 1/2 hour my mouth gets parched and I get thirsty. Does this get better? I get about 20 ounces of liquid in at the moment. I can't seem to get in the 64 that is required. Please...any advice is really appreciated. Thank you

I always cheat and just take a small sip before eating. I get thirsty also. I must get in your fluids and protein even above eating. You do not want to get dehydrated. Are u drinking protein shakes?

I start drinking as I wake up. I sip all day long. Stop 30 minutes before I eat, eat, then wait my 30 minutes to start drinking again. I get in from 55 to 64 ounces a day. I hope this helps.

As I understand it, the main reason for not drinking is that with the sleeve fluids can easily fill you up (it is different than the not drinking for the band). If you get full on fluids, then you won't eat enough of the food you are suppose to. So it does take a little bit of adjustment. On the other hand at almost a year out, I don't worry too much about that rule. The big rules that I still worry about it focusing on protein, taking a multi-vitamin and getting enough fluids throughout the day. Those are the ones my doctor has reminded me of again and again.

I do drink three protein drinks a day. And, just tonight I was in the ER because I have a Urinary Tract Infection from being dehydrated. UGH. I need to forgo the food for right now I think and just do my three protein shakes and sip liquids thru out the day. I was all ready in the ER last week because of dehydration - hooked up to an IV...how lovely.

Not everyone progresses at the same speed so if you are not getting in all your liquids which include the shakes, crystal lite, and water - you need to stay on that stage. If you are dehydrated to the point of an ER visit, you are not drinking enough and should increase that intake. Try some chicken broth if you are having problems with water or simply desiring food. You can also try sugar free jello which will help with the dehydration.
