Default Need help remembering to drink

I ended up in the ER today. I had started peeing blood last night a little and my side hurt. Well, this morning it was much worse. The doc at the ER gave me two bags of fluids and did a CT of my kidneys. I have a large stone and now have to go to the urologist. My problem is I can't seem to remember to drink enough. I am no longer hungry OR thirsty! Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I don't know what to do short of writing it on my walls and on my hands! I'm also not getting enough calories. I wrote down my dinner and it was only 170 calories and I'm supposed to be getting 800-900 a day. This is so stressful! I never thought someone would be telling me to eat more!

I'm going to get a count down stop watch (amazon) so that it beeps every 15 minutes giving a reminder to drink water. Thats a rough reality check of not remembering to drink. Hope things go better for you.

I don't eat enough either or get my protein in each day. I eat a tiny bowl of cereal or greek yogurt for breakfast. Maybe a piece of cheese for lunch and then two bites of dinner and I am feeling like I am going to throw up. I have found the only way that I remember to drink is to take my Tervis tumbler with the adjustable lid that is 24 oz everywhere I go. I know that I need to drink atleast three of them a day. I maybe get in 500 calories a day if I am lucky.

I feel like I am doing good with the protein. I can't do the shakes so it's mostly from meat and cheese and Greek yogurt. My diet from my doc says 3 meals a day no more than 1/2 cup each and no snacking. I'm doing good to get close to that. I may set my cell phone to ring or beep every 15-30 minutes and try that. Geez, I feel like I spend more time thinking about food and drinks now than I ever did before the sleeve!

    Steve Demko,
It is awful! It's super hard to remember to get your calories in and your protein in and drink water........ But the alternative is staying fat, not being able to control my eating, not being able to do the things I want to do with my husband or walk the dogs cause my bone spurs hurt (you get it :-) ). And then it's not so awful. I am so much more happy and hopeful now that I've had this surgery. I don't regret it for one second. But is it easy? Nope, not easy. It's hard not to be able to eat what you want and feeling sick after you do and forgetting protein or water gets worrisome for me. But I always think I'm going to do better tomorrow and sometimes I do and sometimes I don't, I just keep trying. I am going to be healthier and better and one day hopefully I won't struggle to remember these things, it'll just come naturally...oh, and I'll be thin. Yes!

I set my phone for everything. Once I finish breakfast I set the timer for 30 minutes so I know when to grab my water bottle. Then I have a protein drink and back to water. Then I have a reminder for 11:45 to quit drinking my water and then when I finish lunch I set the reminder ... and so on. Water is soooo important. You can do anything, it's just a matter of getting into a groove. If you can't use your phone then get a little timer and that will help you.

SMILE!! It makes people wonder what you're up to!

Steve, don't let things like what I am going through scare you. I love my sleeve and highly recommend it for anyone struggling with their weight. Nothing can really prepare you for after surgery though. With the removal of your stomach and the hunger hormones, everything changes. I have realized the difference between what I WANT to eat and what I FEEL like eating. Overall, I feel so much better and stronger than I have felt in almost 20 years. And that is with only 30 pounds lost. I can't wait until I am under 200 pounds and closer to my goal weight. It's an amazing feeling. Keep reading everyone's posts on the site and take a little of what everyone is going through with you. You'll be much better educated and ready for the post-surgery challenge. I wish you the best of luck!

I'm finding it harder to drink cold fluids during the winter...because it makes me COLDER! haha! It was only 22 degrees here this morning...and I can promise you, I did NOT want to drink ice water! I did make some hot herbal tea (caffeine-free)....and I suppose that counts as fluid intake too. I certainly do better with drinking my water when it's hot outside....when it's hot, I feel thirsty and WANT to drink more.
