    Default Protein drink options

I am struggling with the protein drinks, I just can't choke them down. I've tried 4 different flavors and haven't found any that I like, I think it's a combination of the taste and the texture. I just ordered the Unjury unflavored and will try mixing it with sugar free kool and see if I can drink it.
Has anyone else had this problem and what did you do? I'm wondering if there are protein pills that can be taken instead of the drinks. Any advice is truly appreciated. thank you

wow. my protein shake is my favorite part of the day. this is what i do exactly, it tastes SO GOOD: 4 strawberries (or some blueberries or raspberries) 1/4 cup of nonfat plain yogurt, 1/4 cup of skim milk (or soy or milk) 1 scoop of vanilla or strawberry whey protein, 6 ice cubes, 2 sweet n lows. blend in a blender still all the ice is crushed up into a creamy milkshake thing. presto-- you are in heaven. If you dont like berries, you can put diet chocolate swiss miss packet, with peanut butter, and it would taste like a butterfinger. now, if you can't drink all of it, which, i can only drink half of this or so, you can put the rest in the freezer and this is protein shake heaven ten times over. i hope this helps. you need to get that protein in... if you don't have a blender, just get one because theyre only twenty bucks and you will use it many times during the week.

One scoop of whey protein powder is about 26 grams of protein. I add 1/2 scoop to my oatmeal every morning to ramp up the protein in my breakfast. You could also buy the unflavored and add it to soups, hot chocolate (sugar free of course), sauces, etc....even mashed potatoes I'm guessing (although I don't eat those because of the carbs). But for my daily afternoon protein shake, I absolutely LOVE Atkins Advantage shakes. But I think I may have to steal getdowngirl's recipe above...it sounds yummy! I also found premeasured protein drinks in individual packets, which are great for me because I travel on business so often, and they are easy to pack and mix with a bottle of water or low-fat milk I can buy in hotel gift shops. They are called "Betty Lou's Low Glycemic Designer Protein Shakes" and they come in about four flavors, sold at my local Vitamin Shoppe. I have tried the Orange Cream, mixed with water, which is pretty good...but I still like my Atkins Advantage better. Maybe if I tried it mixed with skim milk I would like it even more! Still, for the convenience factor and the traveling factor, I haven't found anything to beat it.

I've been using the Classic Chocolate Unjury, or the Chicken Soup Unjury.

I have noticed that since my surgery, I don't like a lot of sweet drinks... I used to love the Sobe Lifewaters, and now I can't stand them. It's hard for me to drink Crystal Light, also.

I do know that the Chocolate Splendor Unjury is much sweeter than the Classic Chocolate...

I had the same problem when I first started out, I hated the shakes and could hardly keep them down. If you're still in the early stages (pre- or just post-surgery), here's what I do.

I use the Isopure Chocolate powder. Honestly, I'm not sure it matters which powder you use, but I mix one scoop of powder (which is about 26ish grams of protein) with 1 cup of skim milk to make it feel like its supposed to be thick (which is ANOTHER 8 grams of protein - you get some carbs, but its not too much). I add 1 tsp of vanilla extract to give it a sweeter aftertaste, and 3/4 tsp of Truvia (or a packet of your favorite artificial sweetener) to make it a little sweeter. It ends up tasting like chocolate milk.

If you really want to get fancy, get some other extracts too. I sometimes add 1/2 tsp of orange extract and 1/2 tsp of coconut extract, and it tastes like a chocolate orange

I am struggling with protein as well! I am only one week post opp, but I just can not get down the 60 grams like I am supposed to! I have the GNC brand of Whey protein, I have tried chocolate, vanilla, a mixture of both. I am not sure what I can do to make to taste better! Trying to be patient with myself, but any suggestions would be spectacular!

    Thanks!

These recipes are great thanks!!! I was just saying in another thread the thing that has saved me is the Isopure Liquid clear protein in glass bottles - Grape Frost is my fav. flavor and I now crave the stuff - if I am feeling spacy a hit of this stuff does the trick. It is a little pricier than the powders but since I like it so much I get my 75 grams of protein in every day so I think that is what matters the most at this point. Hint- The Vitamin Shoppe is the cheapest for these supplies and they give points per $ spent towards discounts on future purchases.

I'm having the same problem. I HATE all the protein drinks, especially the powders. The only thing I've been able to get down, and almost enjoy, are Special K protein drinks. They don't have as much protein as the others -- only 10 grams per 10 oz. -- but at least I can get them down.

I can usually get down two protein shakes a day (I'm still in full liquids), but if you eat nonfat Greek yogurt as well, it's another 14-15g of protein per 6oz cup. I also add it to my creamed soups to add protein. I usually eat two of them a day. So between the shakes and the yogurt I'm getting 84g of protein at two weeks post op. I love the idea of mixing with milk instead of water and adding the extracts. I'm gonna have to try those.

Is this just me? The idea of eating anything makes me really sick. I find it hard to be in my apartment while my roommate is making food! She made eggs the other day and I had to leave the room! I really want to try some soups, but I just can't imagine eating them. When I think about it, I get a sick feeling! Is th at weird?

i understand I couldn't either. My dr. told me not to worry to much but when I could eat to eat protein. now I am 5 months out I just had my blood checked and my protein is actually really good. but even with my snacks I try to make sure there is protein in it. Shrimp is good way to get it lots of protein in grilled shrimp if its the small shrimp I can eat 2 or 3 if its the big ones only one.

I found the best protein drink EVER. - Isopure zero carb water 20 ml bottle, which contains about 40 g of Protein. After drinking this bottle of fruity water (it comes in all sorts of flavors ), i am done with 3/4 of my protein requirement and the rest i get from strawberries and yogurt. I buy the pack of 6 Isopure bottles at GNC store.

Best of luck. It gets easier. I had a surgery on 1/5 and was also struggling with protein until I found this Isopure water.

I also use unflavored protein as a creamer in my first
two cups of coffee each morning. 1/2 scoop in each
    cup. Tastes great.
