I had my surgery in Tijuana by Dr. Almanza. My experience was mostly positive and I don't regret my decision. The cost for him is 4500. You have to pay your flight and 1 night at a San Diego hotel the night before surgery.

I didn't realize there was a pay for use place in Edmonton! I know there's the Weight Wise group through the U of A. Why pay double? Pre-surgery you'll go on a 3 day liquid diet. You'll spend one night in hospital. Post surgery there are stitches to come out-family doctor-otherwise you're good to go. Given the opportunity to obtain a product of the same quality but for 1/2 the price - I would go for it.

Having said that, I completely understand you wanting to stay in Alberta. It's a comfort zone where we know what to expect. It's being close to family and friends in case you need them in the first few days (you get home from TJ on the 4th day). I can only say that I felt great on the third day - we even walked over 2 miles that afternoon. Life was changed and good.

I'm now looking at plastic surgery and will likely return to Jerusalem Hospital. I think Dr. Lara has left that practice, but I understand they have someone new. I'll be contacting Melissa (patient coordinator) for more info soon.

I've been debating between making the trip to Mexico alone and doing all the post op work alone or going through a company in Edmonton and having all the support and after surgical meetings and care. The price is double but I would really like to be able to know I have that help afterward. Which route did you take?
