Hello everyone...I began my WLS journey in July. I have all of my pre-surgery testing completed except next Wed. I have to have a CPAP study done and once my surgeon gets the results my surgery will be scheduled. When I first started I was going to have the Lap Band but after much research I have decided to go with the Sleeve and Dr. Cooper says that he believed I made the right choice because many of the bands are now being revised to the Sleeve. I have been following a low-carb way of eating as well and have incorporated 60 minutes of exercise at least 3 times a week. I have been very successful with these changes as I have lost 44 pounds and went from a size 28 to a 20!! I never knew that I had a severe case of obstructive sleep apnea but I am so glad that I found out. I also have had some issues with hypertension although I do not take medication for; as well as degenerative arthritis in my lower back, hips and knees. I am hoping that having this surgery will help ease the pain I have from the degenerative arthritis. My sister is also on this journey with me and am so grateful to have her love and support right by my side!!
I have been over weight for the majority of my life. I have tried many different diets and lost weight but like many of you here I cannot keep it off so this tool will assist me. After having my physical in June and my primary care physician concerned with my weight and the abundant health problems of my parents that put me at a high risk for as well. First, my mother is a 14-year survivor of breast cancer, hypothyroidism, A-fib, CVA, Heart Attack, and multiple TIA's. My father has heart disease as well and high cholesterol. I want to make the changes now while I can.
Thank you to everyone who has welcomed me to this forum...I love reading about everyone's story and hope for success as well !!
