Default Starting Liquid diet today for Surgery

Today is the day I am starting my liquid diet! I have to start by 1/30 so I thought I would get a running start and ease my way into so I don't freak out on that date.

So I am off to the store to make my purchases, any suggestions?

It's funny since I was eating all my food up before I started I literally only have condiments, 5 grapefruit, 3 onions and a head of cauliflower in there.. lol. My fridge has never looked so empty. (so how it's only the healthy stuff that was left behind)

I already have soups on the list, broth, jello, pudding and cream of wheat. I almost stocked up on 3 different kinds of protein drink, I am super excited about starting and really motivated I just know it's going to be hard giving up my energy drinks. I need them when I work my 12 hour shifts.

Hello...I am on day 5 of 21 day pre op liquid diet. I am on Opti fast. I can have seven products a day which consist of 1bar, 1soup, 5shakes and 1 frozen meal such as weight watchers, lean cusine or healthy choice the guideline on the meal is it has to be below 450 cal. and no more than 14 grams of proteins...unlimited clear fluids, broths, jello~sugar free. It was difficult the first few days but not as bad as I thought it would be...Good luck on day 1 and keep us posted

Cool Re: Starting Liquid diet today for Surgery

Wow 21 days! It sounds like you have solid food. They gave me a list of soup, yogurt, protein drink, pudding, popcycles, jello, juices. Of course everything sugar free and low carb. It's really hard since I started back on chicken, salads and vegetables trying not to eat prepacked stuff beside the protein drinks and soups (it's too hard to make soup that tastes as good as the progresso ones)I am starving and it's only 8:38am! I really wish I could eat a chicken breast. I only have to do this diet for 10 days before maybe I should start when I have to start and not before... I may not make it!

I would start when the surgeon says I should....lol.... His professional opinion is you only need 10 days but still be mindful of what you eat until you start the liquid diet..Good luck

Well I am did my first full day of the liquid diet and had my pre-op surgery class yesterday. They said it's to shrink the liver not to clean us out. Well I have been having more fat, calories and salt from before not to meition spent a small fortune on stuff. Eating fresh food never costed this much.

I am one week from surgery and liquid diet is very painful! All I want is some solid food but if I follow the rule of protein first then I am okay. Also schedule your meals is working for me as well and drinking lots of water. I am only drinking V8 to get my vegatable serving. I don't need all the artificial sugar in my system.

Just finished my 2d day on my pre-op diet. I thought today would be better than yesterday, but not so much... My pre-op diets call for 1 protein shake for breakfast, 1 for lunch, and 3-6 oz of lean meat for dinner and veggies. Today, I was hungry, but I think the whole mental thing was the toughest, if that can make since?? I sure hope it gets easier. Today brought a whole lot of doubts.

I found that everyday I overcame the overwhelming desire to cheat I could build on it next day and so every time I thought I couldn't make it I would remember that the feeling would eventually pass. That or I would just smoke a bunch of weed until I passed out .

    Good luck!

Right now I'm wishing for that weed!

    j/k.

    but not entirely@

I made it through the pre-Op, but I'm only 5 days Post-Op and the psychological hunger is killing me. I'm not literally hungry, just want TEXTURE and CRUNCH soooooo bad.

I have my surgery in exactly, 5 days, scheduled for the 23d. I have been on the pre-op diet for 9 days, and lost 11 lbs so far... It seems to get a little easier everyday. I am really wanting Wednesday to come along quick. Went out today and purchased all the vitamins that I will be needing. Another step that makes it just a little more real. It has helped me so much by being on here for the last few weeks and making notes. Thanks to everyone for all the help!!

I start my pre op diet tomorrow and it sounds much more normal than the rest. I have a protein, vegetable, fruit, even a piece of bread or sliced deli meat. And of course the protein shakes. just clear liquids the day before surgery.

Wow I'm really tripping because some you can have REAL FOOD..lol I would love to have a Weight Watcher Meal. This is my 2nd day of the liquid Pre-Op diet. I was given 10 days. My diet consist of Protein drink (3meal replacement), sugar free jello and pudding, chicken/beef soup broth, light yogurt, Crystal Light, 100% juice and H2O. I'm about to PASS OUT! I really feel guity tonight because I cheated. My mom cooked pasta for my kids and I couldn't resist especially when my head was hurting and I was feeling light headesd as well due to hunger. Not to mention I left my Protein drink at home (duhhhh). I do drink my protein first, but I find that it does not sustain my hunger long at all. In about an hour I must eat a jello or something. It seems I got to eat something at least every hour and a half to keep me from not feeling light headed or feeling like I'm starving. Did anyone else feel the same way? Is it normal for me to feel like that so often? And by me eating the pasta (which was very little. I ate about 7 fork fulls)will it have a serious effect on my losing the weight befor surgery or will have any bearing on my liver? I really tries my best to make it on this diet, but it is soooo hard. I really want the surgery and I don't want to jepordize my chance.
