I'm only 5 days post-op, but am beginning to get cramps in my hands. I know this makes total sense considering the liquid diet, and lack of nutrition. When can I start taking multi-vitamins to re-plenish the potassium loss?
I started my CHEWABLE ONLY multi vitamins at the 1 week mark like my doctor recommended. You have to do chewable due to the lack of stomach acid you have to break the pills down. Just make sure you chew them up really well if they are the gummy kind or they have the hard chewable's as well (like flinstones) just make sure you chew them both up and you will be fine. At 3 weeks when you start soft foods or whenever your doctor says to start then you bring in the biotin to help with the hair loss.

Hi,
I am 11 days out and I had cramps and also weird aches and shooting pains in my arms and fingers. By the time I was about a week out cramps and other funny sensations have disappeared. Think it just takes a little time to adjust.
Good luck and best wishes.
Dawnie
I was allowed to start liquid or chewable multivitamins a couple of days after surgery. NO tablet / pill types! I bought a liquid vitamin called Reviva at Costco. I take twice the recommended adult does split between morning and evening. I am now taking other vitamins too (iron, b12, calcium and D) but I started with the multi early on.
