    Default The diet begins:

Well went to my 3rd post-op doctor visit and gained 1 pound. I knew this was coming as this past week the pureed diet was just not cutting it. I am a grazer. I will have a spoonful or two of something as I walk by the frig but won't actually sit down and eat a proper serving. I am now on regular foods and I am only to eat 3 meals a day with 1 snack. My meals are to be 1/2 cup total or less as I feel full. Once I feel full I am to throw out what is remains on my plate and not to continue eating it for the next 2 hours!! This is the start of my tough times. I have always eaten until I feel full and then save whats left on my plate and continue to eat a spoonful every 20 to 30 minutes until it is all gone. So I am now in official retraining! Oh the plus side I get to go back to work on Tuesday---YAY!! One good thing about work is unless you brought it in to eat there is really nowhere to go get something!! Next doctors appointment in 4 weeks-hope to have more control by then.
If anyone has a favorite online daily food tracker site please let me know as I am starting to keep track too to help me gain control.

Hi Terry, I am having excellent success tracking my food intake on FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal. You can search for almost any food, or you can create your own food if you use your own recipe and add up the nutritional content of what you use. Or add "custom" foods if you consume something that you can't find in a search. It tracks calories, fat grams, carb grams, and protein grams, which is exactly what we need! And you can also track exercise and calories burned on there too.

Gosh Diane, thanks for reminding me of that site. I looked it up a couple of weeks ago when you mentioned it and forgot about it when I started back to work. I started about two weeks ago keeping a hand written food diary. Counting calories, carbs, fats. I am also retraining myself as I guess everybody is. I have not lost any in the past week and it is freaking me out I have to admit. I have promised my husband that I will not weigh every day but when I go to bathroom and the scale is there--I weigh. He is going to take the scale and hide it. Sometimes I measure out what I need to eat and sometimes I over guess it. I can tell I can eat more the last few days. I guess as my stomach is healing. I go the Dr on Monday and they said if I do not start drinking more that they will put in fluids by IV. I am trying to drink but have no thirst. I know I am dehydrated and am really trying to fix the problem. That is probably why the weight has slowed down.
I think if you start journeling your food and fluid intake and count carbs, calories and fat you will slowly get a handle on the eating patterns. I WAS a grazer too. Also trying to retrain my brain to in unison with my stomach....

You can do it Pat! I always have a drink in front of me, ha! Start my day out with a cup of tea with a little skim milk in it, the next hour I eat breakfast (oatmeal or eggs), the next hour I drink water, the next hour - a protein shake, the next hour water, the next hour lunch, and so on. Every hour I am either taking in nutrition or drinking...no breaks until bedtime!

Diane - that is a great idea - doing something every hour - I think I will try that tomorrow and see if that helps me too!

Something I did a few years ago to help up my H2O intake is put several bottles of water in the bathroom and every time I go pee I have to have a good long drink before I leave.
