    Default Lapband to VSG-Help!

I am considering having surgery in Mexico and have looked into two doctors. One doc wants to do the removal of the band then sleeve in two procedures and the other doc wants to do the removal and sleeve in one procedure. My question is: Have any of you out there had this procedure done and what are your experiences good or bad with one or two procedures? I am concerned about health risk, safety and money too.
    Thx.

Sometimes they have to have the surgery at 2 different times because of the damage done to the stomach from the lap band. They do that to let the stomach heal so you would have a successful sleeve surgery. If the DR goes in and finds too much damage done to your stomach he will take the band out, fix what he can and close you up and tell you you have to come back. If the band hasn't done that much harm he then can do the sleeve in the same procedure.

I had the roux n y done 12 years ago and need to have the lap band surgery now as my stomach has stretched out after all these years and I have regained 50 pounds. I think the lap band is the only thing they can do for me..I hate the refill part and I will have to find a dr stateside to do that as my surgery is in Mexico for the lap band and I can't keep flying down to have it done. I wonder what refills cost? The sleeve would serve me better but I don't think I am a candidate for that. Does the lap band destroy your stomach ??? That is scary to think about for me...

I was able to have both surgeries at once but I went under anesthesia knowing that if there was too much stomach damage from my band I wouldn't be able to have the sleeve done. I had my band in for 5.5 years and there was some damage but no erosion or infection so they were able to do the VSG. The surgery was a little over 2 hours because of all the scar tissue they had to remove. I woke up with an NG tube ( goes into your nose and down into your stomach) to keep my stomach open and prevent it from collapsing on itself from the band. I had to stay in the hospital for 2 nights but after that I was great!

I didn't like the band and am glad I finally got the sleeve. There are a lot of surgeons that won't do the band because of the high failure rate and the risk for complications. It's a tool that has worked for many, but not for all. Good luck with your decision!

    Hi there

I had the lap band to sleeve done in one procedure. I made out just fine. The only "complication" was that the band had restricted my stomach for so long that they had to put an NG tube down. I didn't get that removed until the day after surgery but it was fine. I was only charge $500 extra to have the band removed. So happy and love my sleeve

I don't have the option of having a sleeve because of my prior roux en y gastric bypass done in 2000. The lapband is my last hope surgically and the only offered for me...so I am trying to find someothers who had the same thing as what I am having a revision for to see how it has worked for them..but thanks and I wish you much success...

I don't mean to sound as if I don't care..however...I get that people are doing revision from Lap Bands to sleeves..I CAN" NOT HAVE A SLEEVE it is NOT an option for me and so wishing you all the best ...I sincerely mean it...I want to connect with someone who HAS HAD REVISION from ROUX EN Y to Lapband...that is our ONLY option and I would appreciate being able to communicate with someone who has the SAME circumstance as I...

Unfortunately, this is a "sleevers" site...I am afraid you will not find anyone on this site who has had that type of revision. I wish you the best of luck with your revision.

Frankly, it is difficult for the doctor to judge the damage from the band until they are actually operating. I had my band removed a year ago and wanted the sleeve but my husband was adamant he didn't want me to do it. However, when I piled on the weight in a year, he finally relented and I had the sleeve. My doctor did say it would have been easier to have done the sleeve last year.

    hi,
i had rny 7 years ago and have regained 40. i am scheduled for lapband in july, but have just heard from another member that they went to a sleeve after first getting rny, then a lapband. i'm getting nervous about lapband issues too. i do wonder though, if we stretched out after rny, will we stretch out again after sleeve? let me know how it goes! good luck!
