Well ive started on the road to get a sleeve done, i have an appointment monday to get a referal to a specialist in perth, who is hopefully covered by hbf insurance. I have been fat my entire life, and have only ever been able to lose weight when under massive amounts of stress. Im 6'4 and 150kg, lately my joints ache and im ashamed of my appearance so ive decide this will be it.
I had a mate get it done in 09 and he went from 180kg to 92kg. I was not convinced till i saw him but now i am.

Something that concerns me with this priceedure is the ability to retain muscle mass or strength, i am overweight but am also very strong and i dont want to lose this, so im curious if the limited intake will effect this.

Welcome Roadtrainrunner! Part of our new lifestyle is making certain that we eat sufficient amounts of protein every day (60-80 grams), plus exercise 5-7 times a week. Protein and exercise build the muscle mass, so I think our doctors and dietitians are on the right track. They want us to lose fat, not muscle; so if you follow the plan, you should be OK. I am thrilled with my new sleeve stomach, and I have my lean mass to fat ratio checked by a nurse at the gym every six weeks. I just had my first checkup at the gym, so we'll see how I'm doing in another six weeks or so.

Hi Roadtrainrunner, I'm from Western Australia also and was sleeved in May last year. I've come from 127kg to 92kg and consider it was the best thing I've ever done for myself. I hope all goes well with you. Who is your surgeon?

Well i got my referal today, now i have to travel to perth to see the specialist. The doc agreed straight away given my family history and personal health concerns.
So.......

Ok, i have a consultation in perth on 21st feb.
It would seem my health insurance and medicare will help lots, but i will have to hand over $5300 for the 12 month package. Does this seem the average cost in australia?
My biggest expense i think will be travel and time off work.

VERY BLOODY CAREFULLY. HEHEHE
NAH, it is cut and sealed with I think 2 rows of staples, both sides, our sleeve and the part they take out.

Not to mention, there really isn't ANYTHING in your stomach at all, since you were on clear liquids the day or two prior to your surgery, and since you didn't ingest ANYTHING from about 10:00pm the night before.

They will suction any remaining contents out first! Then as they are stapling the area before they cut it closes the area prior to removal!
