Default Re: how do you get over your stomach being removed?????

What did it for me was the fact that the hunger hormone, Ghrelin, is removed along with the 80% of the stomach. Before I had the surgery, I believe my Ghrelin worked overtime, I just never felt satiated. It is so liberating to be free of hunger most of the time. I still get a little hungry sometimes, but I believe I think more like a "skinny" person does now. Food just doesn't have the power over me that it used to. I love using food for fuel rather than be a slave to it. Best of luck to you!!! I LOVE MY SLEEVE!!!

I am hungry around the clock. I just had surgery... what is with that!!! I hope this goes away pretty fast. I am obsessing about food these past few days. I want it I want it, and while I am sure it is some mental. Me and anyone else in hearing distance will tell you, it is physical. I feel empty and starving. Am I the only one who was hungry after the surgery? Will this go away?

Red face Re: how do you get over your stomach being removed?????

I just had mine done on Wednesday and I honestly don't feel any different! There's a little gas in my tummy which goes away shortly. But I'd rather have it removed than leaving it in me, if it didn't have a function.

Ditto! I could eat 24/7. Now, 2 weeks after the sleeve, I truly believe there is a difference. I don't have cravings. I see food as fuel now, too.

I felt similarly. I also didn't like the idea of having a foreign object in my body. I was never bothered by having a part of me removed but having something put in that shouldn't be in there really bothered me. The sleeve seemed like a much better option when I weighed out all the pros and cons; sleeve won by a land slide. I have a cousin who did the lap band and lost a ton of weight and my mom who did the sleeve and lost even more. Both are happy with what they did but I am very happy that I went with the sleeve. So far, so good!

I felt that way too, including the gurgling empty stomach that you described in your earlier post. The gurgling thing passes in about a week to a week and a half as the swelling goes down and the hunger gets better once you get to eat soups and other liquids. I am now on puree/soft and I seriously only hungry when it's time to eat. It does get better....hang in there.

If your gallbladder or appendix was making you sick, would you have any problem letting them take it? My stomach was making me sick- obese, hypertensive, painful knees, and glucose intolerance are all "sickness" that being sleeved has cured. I'd say it's a bargain!!

I told my family and close friends about it because I was just so excited! I started telling people once I was approved for the surgery. Of course people really close to me knew before like my mom and my husband but everyone else found out only once I knew for sure that I was going to do the surgery. Pretty much everyone that I told was really happy for me, some people were concerned but mostly it was positive reactions. And besides, I don't care what people say because I want to be healthy and happy and that is why I did this.

I honestly was never concerned about having most of my stomach removed. It wasn't ever an issue for me. I liked it over the lap band because having a foreign object placed in my body was more bothersome than anything else. Also, my mom was sleeved two years ago with great success. It's been almost 3 weeks for me and I am doing great! I feel great and I'm so happy I did it. I'm already getting compliments on how much weight I've lost and I feel so good about myself. i feel like this was the best decision I've ever made! I would recommend the sleeve to anyone considering wls! Even though it's newer than the other procedures, it seems to be the best option available now. Good luck to you in whatever you decide to do!

a-lemarr, I have not told anyone other than my husband. My only support is the wonderful people on this forum. I want to focus 100% on my journey without having to justify my decision. It's an individual choice. If you have supportive friends and family, then you should consider telling them.

scgal yea i have only told my husband my cousin mom and a very close friend of mine who struggles with her weight as well. my friend i told was so super supportive and excited for me but i feel the rest of my family and friends will not be as excited. im even scared to tell my own father! idk when or if i am going to tell them eventually they will find out clearly because how slow i will be eating adn the amounts i will be eating but thats the nice part my husband is military so we are away from our famiies. i am doing it for ME and NO ONE ELSE! but i just dont want to be looked at by the "skinny people" like i was so weak i couldnt do it on my own.

I didn't have this issue. I've had prior surgeries in which I've had my tonsils and adenoids removed, my gall bladder removed, and a total thyroidectomy to remove thyroid cancer. Removing a part of my stomach wasn't that huge of deal to me. I was excited to get the opportunity of a new lease on life. =) I must say, I'm 18 days post-surgery and LOVE every minute of this new life. I've had no issues whatsoever with eating, drinking, no heartburn, and I'm losing weight in remarkable ways. I feel great. My friends notice I look better and that I smile a lot more. It if took losing a part of my stomach to do that it was soooo worth it to me. =)

I have wondered that myself. I have wondered what if down the road something happens what do I do then. What if I get a stomach bug is it going to kill me. I know not to positive but this is questions I really want to know. I know some thinks its silly but I just wonder.

hiii, i had the same feeling you are talking about after my surgery , until by coincidence i read the medical leaflet of some medicine and i recognized something ( that patients who have peptic ulcer , they get a part of their stomach removed ) so after all ,God forbodden if any one of us had severe peptic ulcer they would have had the same operation , so what about the most dangerous disease that we had ( Over weight ) . plus all the stomach juices , acids are secreted but with few amounts now ( except for calcium and Vitamin B absorbtion ).every time you weight ur self and find that you lost 1 pound u will say ,bye bye stomach
First few weeks are tough but then whole new life starts
    goodluck
