My primary care doctor wants nothing to do with my aftercare because i had my sleeve done in mexico

Anyone have this issue.....basically i have felt like crap for 3 weeks....weak,dizzy,I called my doctor to make appt because i'm not feeling well,the nurse calls back and wants specifics,I tell her what i did,she tells me the doctor who did it has to do follow ups.he is in mexico,i was told by surgeon my primary care doctor does blood work....the catch,it needs to be ordered from the surgeon.............so what do i do,i did manage to get a doctor appt tomorrow to "talk" but my doctor made it clear he is not comfortable..............this stinks,anybody know how to deal with this?

I too had my surgery done in Mexico. Before I decided to have my surgery done I had spoken to my primary care doctor and she was more than willing to help with my follow up care. I guess I was fortunate with that. I had my surgery on November 8th and haven't had a reason to see her as of yet but I do have a previously scheduled appt for February 4th at which time she will check everything out. That is too bad. I hope that you can work something out with your doctor......

That is horrible! Time to switch doctors. He should be willing to take care of you no matter what was done to you prior to your visit. The bottom line is you are feeling bad and he should treat you. Are you taking vitamins? Are you getting enough fluids? I only felt weak the first week after surgery when I was on clears.

I also had my sleeve in Mexico with Dr. Alvarez. I worried about follow up care but my doctor here was excited that I was finally doing something about my weight. He also wanted me to come back and talk to other his other over-weight patients about my sleeve.

I hope it all works out. Call your surgeon in Mexico and see if they can order bloodwork and fax it to your local doctor. Good luck.

Gloeygirl.....When did you have your surgery? I also had my surgery with Dr Alvarez and I think we talked about that before. How much have you lost so far? My experience with Dr. A was amazing.

Hi, I agree with the others find a different primary. I have an HMO they do sleeves but I did not qualify so I was self paid but they are going to do my follow up. Actually unless your insurance drops you they are required to treat you.

Your Doctor is required by Law to treat you till you find another Dr. willing to provide care and he Must give you written notice at least 30 days in advance to releasing you as a patient. With that said who would want someone to care for them with that attitude!

Who did your surgery in Mexico? I had mine done in Cancun by Dr. Fernando Ceron and Dr. Hector Perez.

As others have said, I would look for another doctor. I have been told about this from other folks who have had surgery outside the country that their doctor's acted weird when they found out their patients went outside the country for operations. I even had surgery in Russia once for a female problem in my uterus. You should have seen my doctor's face in the States when I told him. The surgery I needed was $5,000 and in Russia I paid $350 with the help of my lady friend. Consequently the surgery I had over there took care of my problem.

Also when my grandmother was dying her American doctor refused to treat her on her deathbed and I had to find another doctor who could treat her on short notice. Another doctor took over but she died within the week.

This new breed of doctor's can be weird. I miss the old time family physician.
They're a rare breed. Not many of the old timer's left.

Tammy...Dr. A was incredible!!! I have never had such amazing care in my life and this was my 9th surgery. I had my sleeve Sat. Dec 18th. I am only 2 weeks out. Since my pre-op diet Dec. 4th, I have lost 35 pounds!!!! Previously I had lost 16 so my total loss is 51 pounds. I feel great! I am starting the second week of reg. liquids and dying to start smushies next Monday!!!!

I am excited for you. I can tell by your ticker that you are almost in the 100's!!! Hooray I am dying for a ONE in front of my weight! Its been 23 years since I have been anywhere close to that!! I bet you feel great! You look beautiful in your pictures. Keep it up!

To Everyone who replied to my post...........

Went to see my Primary doctor yesterday,he was great!!!!!! My vitals weren't great,my blood pressure was low and he was concerned,he set me up for appt with a GI specialist on Friday and took some blood tests and I feel better knowing that I will be taken care of.The scariest thing for me is my bouts of dizziness,and I am drinking fluids,oatmeal,protein drinks and soups.....with that being said,I feel like my thinking is off and it's hard to focus on one thing,especially being exhausted without doing much.......well,I will keep you updated.

Jersey I am glad to hear the Doc is looking after you, it will get better the exhaustion does subside. Get the docs advice on what Vitamins might help you, even two years later I still need my vitamins.
