Default What was your rate of weight loss?

I'm 95% decided on the gastric sleeve over the lap band. I know this is not a quick fix. But I'd love to hear what the rate of weight loss was for some of you. I'm finding it hard to believe that I might only lose a couple of lbs the 1st month when 2 of that will be liquids only. Also, hearing about you would be motivating, reassuring and a reminder that it going to be possible for me to lose weight and have a tool that helps me keep it off. Happy New Year!

    I am 221 and 5'5 with more than 2 co-morbitities

Weightloss does plateau, I plateaued a couple of times.

Basically took me about 9months to lose the 50kg and I have kept that off for the last 12 months. If I exercised more I would reach goal.

    Hey there
I did well the first month losing approximately 30 pounds but in the last month things have really slowed down for me...Month 2 I have only dropped about 10 pounds. I say only but I would never have been able to do that without the sleeve. I am 5'4 and starting weight was 248. This morning I weighed in at 208. I try not to be disappointed but I did expect that the weight would come off a lot quicker. I am starting Zumba classes tomorrow and I am walking everyday. On a positive note I checked my blood pressure yesterday and it is awesome. I used to be on meds for high blood pressure and haven't taken them since my surgery. My resting heart rate has always been very high like in the 90's and it is now down to 69. I guess the moral of this is that even though the weight loss has been slow for me the health benefits have been worth every dollar I spent.

It's been 8 weeks coming up in 2 days. I have lost 40 lbs so averaging 5/week. But I did lose 15 the first week after surgery. I have lost every week, sometimes only a pound though. This was the best decision I have made. I'm sure every one of us has tried every diet out there, with little, no, or temporary success. I have no regrets whatsoever. I already look and feel so much better, and I am half way to my goal. I am hoping to reach my goal in 3-4 months. I can now start working out so hoping to keep the momentum going. Go for it....you won't regret it!

Hi SocialKelly, I will be four weeks post-surgery tomorrow. I lost 12 lbs. before my surgery, and have lost another 16 lbs since...for a total of 30. So, since the surgery I have lost an average of 4 lbs each week. I expect that will slow down now that I am eating nearly all normal foods. But I have also started exercising...recumbent bicycle, treadmill, and arm exercises. I feel great and am glad that I have the energy and desire to exercise now. I don't care if the weight loss slows down, as long as it keeps going down. Good luck to you!
    Diane

Hi, That's a hard question because it varies so much person to person. You have less then 100lbs to lose and that means you'll lose slower then someone who has more to lose. I am 5'2 1/2" I was 208 in July for my first consult with high blood pressure and high cholesterol I had surgery 8-24 I weigh 155 today. I also exercise 5 days a week.

Thank you, thank you. All your replies are so helpful. First, I want to keep my expectations reasonable. Most of all, I need to be reassured that the weight, while not magically, does come off and my yo-yo dieting is soon to come to an end.

Nancy is right, weight loss varies for everyone. I lost a total of 33 the first month. I just had my surgery 2 weeks ago. (17 pre-op and 16 post-op). It is amazing to get on the scale and see 1 or 2 pounds drop each time.

I have not started exercising, but plan to this week. Hopefully it will help. I know that we reach plateaus then lose quickly again. Everything I have read says the majority of weight comes off the first 8 months.

    Good luck to you!! Glo
