This assessment is pretty much my experience as well.
In my experience/watching my peers graduate and go into positions similar, business development is pretty much the predecessor of Account Representatives/Account Executives.
Massaging the process and making it easier for clients to interface and communicate with the business.
ALSO "business development" at an institution like a bank could also involve like something higher level. Like partnering with vendor relations and strategic partnerships. For example, the way someone at AMEX is in charge of the business, rewards, and promotions with Delta. They're in charge of developing that business, managing, marketing, and growing that business.
So it depends on the workplace... I guess there are a lot of ways to develop business lol.
