I am getting more serious about having the gastric sleeve surgery so I would like to know if there is anything specific that I need to do before I have the surgery? I don't smoke (I know they want you to quit smoking). Is there anything else?

With all the research I have been doing, I see that they advise you to lose some weight first. I always laugh when I see that. After all we are getting the surgery to help us lose weight right?
Most dr's will put you on a specific diet 2 weeks out. The diet helps you loose fat around your liver as well as shrink your liver so they can better get to your stomach durring the surgery.
I didn't know that Minches. What kind of diet do they put you on for the two weeks prior to surgery? I know some people who have been put on a diabetic diet for a short time before having surgery, but it wasn't a weight loss surgery it was just to help them lose weight before other kinds of surgery.
Everyones Dr seems to be a bit different. some have liquid diets and some are low carb. My Dr. Had me on high protein, low carb. All day was greek yogurt and protein drinks and dinner was a small serving of protein and a a non starch veggie. All are different.
I thought that they put you on a diet to get rid of some of the fat in your stomach. I thought it was to give them some room to work? I'm not sure though.
My understanding is the same as minches. The intention is to reduce fat around the liver to create room around the stomach. The doctors here use a variety of low calorie protein type shakes as the only food for two weeks prior to the op.
cheers
