Hello! My name is Ashley and I’m scheduled for surgery on February 25th. I’ve been wanting this surgery for two years and it’s finally happening!!!Any advice is much appreciated as I am extremely nervous and excited to embark on this new journey!!
Hi! Working on getting the surgery for two years shows determination so you are probably going to do great! My advice is take it one day at a time. I hope your surgery goes well and please keep us posted on how you are doing. Any specific questions, please ask. The people on this forum have so much experience and knowledge about this journey!
Hi and welcome.
Please just follow your surgeons instructions for the pre-surgery liquid phase.
Protein drinks differ and I can't comment on ones in your country as I am not familiar with them.
Don't buy in bulk! Try different ones until you find one that you like. Ask for samples if they are available.
Also your taste may change after surgery and what you like before you might not like after.
I was instructed to wait three weeks after surgery until I started on multivitamins - however do whatever your surgeon advises.
I found that I couldn't tolerate the vitamins on an empty stomach. I also didn't like the chewable ones and once I could swallow enough liquid I changed to a capsule. You will sort out what works best for you.
This is a very exciting time. I hope all goes well for you.
Please keep us posted.
Your surgeon should give you specific instructions on the pre-op liquid diet. I would follow it exactly and the very best you can. I could tolerate protein shakes before surgery but they made me sick to my stomach after surgery. The clear protein drinks were too sickly sweet. I would recommend trying different ones before buying them in bulk. It's too bad all these bariatric food/drinks are so crazy expensive! I'm taking Flintstone children's chewables for my multivitamin. I sometimes have a hard time swallowing the calcium citrate tablets but the only chewable ones I have seen are online and again crazy expensive. I would go ahead and start taking biotin. I am going on four months of losing hair and hope it stops soon! I'm going to wait for my six month labs before buying more vitamins in case I need something different. If you can afford them there seem to be some great ones online specifically for bariatric patients.
I believe you can plan to a certain degree for after surgery but in many ways it is one day at a time. Hopefully you have good support at home as well!
Congratulations on your upcoming surgery. As stated, everyone's opinion on protein shakes differ. I would use Vitamin Shoppe because if you purchase one that you don't like, you can return it. I use Jay Robb vanilla and I really like them. Follow the guidelines of your bariatric team regarding pre-and post op instructions. You will find that there are no two doctors that say the exact same thing. Good Luck!
how did the surgery go?!
