hi,, what is the key to the liquid diet .???????????? I am so used of eating during the day .. I start the liquid diet on tomorrow for 2 weeks
Whatever you can do to keep your eye on the prize. Remind yourself as much as you need that this is temporary and you will eat again just not right now. If you can have mints or hard candy that helps. Popsicles if you are able. Whatever you are craving, see what liquid you are able to do that will help that Specific craving. If count downs or tracker apps help get those. Whatever visual motivation will help you. There’s lots of resources online. This also will change your whole eating routine. Which is odd. It feels like you have way too much time. You might want to figure out some different things to do that you enjoy to fill that time. You can also blog your journey or create a weight loss journey account on some platform (a lot of people do that on Instagram) to keep you busy. You can always rage post on here ! This is what we call the start of the food funeral. You might get a tad weak or dizzy due to a big change in eating habits. It will pass. Days 3-4 are usually the worst and then it will get easier. Just remember it’s not going to be difficult the entire time. If you follow your liquid diet, after surgery will be a cake walk.
For me, the two-week liquid diet was the worst part of the entire process. I was never hungry, my problem was I'm a stickler for food variety, loved my two cups of coffee in a.m. and my one Diet Coke in afternoon. In prep for the two weeks, I had turned my meals into food funerals by enjoying small portions of any and all food favorites. Then, it was no food, cold turkey.
I never deviated from a very strict 4-5/day clinic provided protein powder shakes and water. Nothing else. Nothing.
It was not easy but I made it. You will, too. Keep your eye on the prize and good luck.
P.S. Offered choices of shake flavors, I chose vanilla. You will likely dislike anything sweet soon into the process and vanilla was the least sweet.
I didn't find it too awful -- I do have liver issues, so I was quite determined to be "perfect" on it. After the first 3 days, during which I had a headache (sugar detox?) it was great.
The liquid diet was the worst part of the whole process and even then it wasn't so bad.
Keep your eye on the prize (safer successful surgery) and then you really just have to suck it up and get on with it.
Remember it is for a limited time. I actually had to do 3 weeks so lucky you only doing 2. :-)
Try and keep busy - and drink lots of water - it really does help.
All the best.
For me the first 2-3 days were tough but after that the hunger pangs subsided. Losing during the liquid part of the process is very important. It jump starts your loss and makes the surgery easier. I lost 19lbs in my 2 week liquid diet. You can do it. Tough but worth it. Go for it.
You guys who do the liquid diet are the real WLS pre-op heroes. I would have never been able to handle it. Thankfully my doctor didn't require it for more than one day for me. I'd like to say "You got this!" but man, it sounds awful. Wishing you all the very best luck with sticking to it.
