    Default Hi

    Hi
My name is Monica I am 53 going on 54. I have struggled with my weight my entire life. Done every diet with only gaining the weight back\
3 years ago I had a tummy tuck and breast reduction and swore I will never be this high in weight again (168 lbs)
I have changed my job to a sedentary position with long hours and no time to exercise.
My weight is now up to 186 lbs.
I am aching all over unable to walk upstairs due to the pain in my knees and feet. I also have apnea.
My body feels like the one of an 80-year-old one.
I am debating if I should proceed to have gastric sleeve surgery.
when I look at myself in the mirror I am disgusted.
Now debating if this is the correct step to do as I do not want to feel like this anymore and now I am concerned
that I will look awful and older with all the loose skin or malnourished and sick.
Body image and health is why I am wanting to do this.
    Is it worth it?

    Hi Monica,
Welcome to the forum. How tall are you? I'm asking because even at 186, I'm not sure if you would be approved for surgery. Have you gone to see a bariatric surgeon or gone to a seminar as of yet? Regarding malnourishment and loose skin. Depending on your body type, yes, you will have loose skin. If you are eating properly and following the guidelines of your bariatric team and barring any other medical problems, you should have no problems being malnourished. Good Luck on your journey.

That's what I thought, 186 does not seem high enough for surgery unless you're super short.

    Monica,
I think all of us here will tell you that having the surgery was the best decision that we have ever made. My only regret is that the sleeve was not around 20 years ago, or I would have had it a lot sooner. As long as you follow the guidelines of your bariatric team, you will be fine.
