Default Nine Week Post Op ~ Already Having Challenges

Hello Everyone, hope that everyone is staying safe & healthy!
My husband took a weeks vacation last week. It was nice, we walked at different parks each day, weather permitting. Problem was , he loves to cook which is nice also but... he started making homemade bread, then banana bread, then bread pudding. You guessed it. I sampled each one using it as part of my meal. I hope I learned my lesson ~ had gas pains for hours and also gained 2 lbs. I didn't expect to be challenged this early after surgery. I can't expect my husband to change the way he eats and cooks so I guess I'm just gonna have to toughen it up and get with the program. From now on I will eat my meals separate and measure and weigh before I eat. Thanks for Listening.

At 9 weeks out it is important to follow the program to the letter. You have to learn good habits now. Eat healthy and drink those fluids. You can do it. It is also important to have family support. Don't get sidetracked.

All your good habits will be formed in these first few months. So yes, you will need to be vigilant.
I wouldn't suggest eating separately from your husband but it that is what it takes, then you do what you need to do.
Perhaps he could also be a little sympathetic and use his cooking skills to make some yummy bariatric friendly meals that you both could enjoy - there are many websites with recipes. :-)
My partner found it difficult at first that I was having such small meals and his were normal sized. He felt bad. But he soon got over it :-)
He actually eats a lot healthier now too and is much more conscious of what he is putting in his mouth these days which makes it a lot easier for me too.

Oh my! I'm sorry you learned the hard way. I am the cook/baker, but I seldom indulge but I had the mixed blessing of "toad froth" if I eat incorrectly or too much.

    You're back on track! Hooray.

No bread. I'm over 6 years out and rarely eat bread. Or pasta, cereal or potatoes. I save it for special occasions, like a favorite restaurant that has amazing rosemary garlic bread. So it's a special treat. Even then I'll have a small piece.

We entertain a lot. Years ago I stopped serving rolls, as I realized no one ate them.

Sounds like you learned your lesson! You'll be fine. Those 2 pounds will be gone in no time.

I feel as though I have not had surgery. It seems as though I can eat anything and have a difficulty feeling full when I am eating.

Hi Kat, When you eat what you your doctor told you to eat, like protein first, then vegetables, then a carb (if you have room )~ you should feel full. You need to talk to your doctor or dietician. I don't plan on eating sugary snacks or deserts, but if I did I may not get full. When I had the lap band I had lot of trouble eating meats and vegies but I could eat all the ice cream, cake , and cookies without getting full. That was a nightmare. I am so thankful that 1 egg and 4 crackers, or cottage cheese and fruit is filling and satisfying to me with the gastric sleeve. You will figure it out. I am 9 weeks post op and I feel like I am still in testing phase of figuring out what I can eat and what I can't to have a healthy weight loss journey. I wish you the best.
