Default Traveling to get VSG in Tijuana during this pandemic

Is there anyone that is still traveling to Tijuana for VSG surgery?
I am and I was wondering if anyone else was.

Hi, I’m scheduled to have surgery on the 19... I am more scared to travel across the border than having the surgery.
I’m still contemplating it... good luck

Please do not get on an airplane and travel to a foreign (3rd world) country. Places like planes are super dangerous due to your close proximity to people and everyone breathing the same recirculated air. Your surgery is elective, please postpone. We have no idea what is going to happen. You could be stuck in Mexico for a month or longer. Could you afford that? What if you get the virus? If you are obese you are at a much higher risk than the general population. Wouldn't you rather be in a US hospital if you get sick?

We really don't know what is going to happen, but doctors are saying the virus doubles every 3 or 4 days. Do that math. They say the US will peak mid-May, and that best case senerio is 100,000 deaths. Please postpone your surgery!

Discuss this with your PCP in the states. See what they advise you to do. I'm certainly no expert, just a news follower.

As distressing as it is to have to make the decision, I certainly wouldn't be travelling anywhere at the moment.
If you have the option to postpone, I would certainly consider doing that.

I’m sure that you Lakeshia and Brooklynm are very excited about getting your surgeries, but please don’t go to Tijuana at this time. I have to agree with sraebaer on this. Full disclosure, I don’t support going outside the US for surgery, but putting that aside, this is not a good time to travel even within the US let alone to Mexico. Even if you don’t fly to get there (which has it’s own risks) you may very well not be able to get back into the US. The Coronavirus situation is changing every hour. Because you are obese you very likely have comorbidities which increase your chance of getting this virus. If you don’t have comorbidities surgery itself increases your risk. Let’s say you do go and your get your surgery and successfully get back home. You could still have a complication. At this time medical providers/hospitals may be overwhelmed. You may have trouble getting treated or because you get treated, someone else may be turned away. You’ve waited this long so please be patient, focus on eating healthy and wait until things settle down.

I rescheduled. I was up all night thinking and decided it was better for my family if I stay home right now. I’m super super bummed! I was doing good on my diet and liquid diet and I ate food today and now feel sick.
Overall, I feel good about my decision. Thank you everyone who responded. I appreciate the support

So smart Brookelynm, but I understand your disappointment. You could try to use this time to get back to healthy eating. I know many people who lose a lot before surgery. Have you watched any Dr. Vuong videos? The larger his patients, the more he makes them lose before surgery, some over 100 pounds! I try to follow his diet, which you can find online.

In the states you probably wouldn't get your surgery either, as they are cancelling any elective surgeries to keep the beds open for people in life and death situations.

Scary times. Think of the people who have to cancel weddings, the seniors who will have no graduation, the people without jobs etc.

    Wising you the best!

Another factor is the possibility of Mexico closing the border temporarily. They have only 26 cases last I saw in the news - we have thousands. They see our situation as a huge risk, which I can't blame them.

Agree with everybody this is a bad time to schedule a surgery. Travel is a risk, and I don't know about screening returning from Mexico - but have been some nightmare delays in the news lately at the airport. Good for you Brookelynm. Immyonlycomp1 if you went ahead and are in Mexico or on your way - hoping it all turns out well for you. Please let us know how you are doing when you can.

A local church youth group went on a mission trip to Guatemala for spring break, and are now stranded there. No flights in or out of the country. Scary stuff.
