My partner and I have cut back on the amounts of food that we buy and if we do happen to have too much we tend to freeze the excess before it is cooked and then put with something else at a later date to make a different meal.
If we have cooked leftovers they usually aren't that much and my partner will take to work for lunch.

Breakfasts these days are green smoothies during the week and usually a scrambled egg on a slice of really good wholemeal bread at the weekend. I have been known to have dinner leftovers (chicken, fish and steak) for breakfast too. Making protein a priority does make you think out of the box :-)

I still cook like I have 4 kids at home; that said, I make healthy versions of favorites, and we invested (we feel like money well spent) in great freezer containers. So I cook about 3 x a month, and we have variations of that, along with vegetables and healthy things, along with the pre made.

Yes, I do cook from ingredients, and seldom use pre made or boxed items. Never got in the habit.
When we go out, I always take home what turns out to be 4 meals - or 2 for my husband.

But still uncomfortable with wasting food. (NOTE: My daughter brought cookies -- and I flushed mine....felt guilty but didn't eat it)

Iíve been single (widowed) for 7 years so have made an effort to cook for 1 since then. Since surgery Iím try to be even more cognizant of this, but still often have leftovers. I usually refrigerate one or two more meals and freeze the rest.
One bit of advice I picked up on and learned from after surgery was that it is OK to waste food. Itís gonna happen! Iíve gotten my mind OK with it. There WILL be more food. Itís not my last meal!
For breakfast I typically have Unjury Powdered protein mixed with 4 ounces of Fairlife fat free milk, a couple ounces of water and some ice. I add fiber to it and sometimes instant decaf coffee granules or mint extract. Sometimes I add a tablespoon of PB2 peanut butter powder. On weekends I sometimes have steel cut oats with some apple pieces or blueberries in it. Iíve also acquired a taste for green smoothies so on days where I know I may be eating more/higher calorie meals later in the day, I start with a spinach fresh pineapple smoothie.
Lastly, I start each day drinking 16 ounces of water. Only after that do I have coffee. Then half hour or so after coffee I have breakfast. Iíve found that ďeatingĒ later in the morning works better for me as Iím not really hungry first thing while later in the day is when I feel like a meal.
