    Default Heartburn

    Hi,

Can anyone tell me if the heartburn gets better after time, is it just my new stomach settling down ?
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

All I know is my surgeon put me on a preventative med for 1 month after surgery, and after 1 month I didn't need it anymore. Talk to your doctor, he/she can help. You may need a prescription.

It's a crapshoot. I never had heartburn before surgery. Got it afterwards, and it has never rectified itself. I take prescription Protonix. If I'm even an hour or so late taking it, my day is going to suck. I hope you're one of the lucky ones who only has it for a short while.

It got better for me shortly after surgery. Then I started feeling hungry all the time and found out that heartburn can also feel like hunger so be aware of that if it happens to you. After a few months all of it stopped. If it persists or gets worse definitely let your surgeon know because it could be a hiatal hernia too. Apparently those are common with sleeves?? I didn’t know that until recently when my heartburn came back and my surgeon did an EGD and found one.
    Hope this helps! Take care.

You don’t have to be perfect. You just need to be better.

    Hi sally,

My heartburn definitely got better. I had it most days for the first month. Hardly get it now, if i do don't need to take anything for it.
I find it keeps at bay as long as i don't bend down straight after a meal or full drink, like a cup of tea. Fine if i crouch down just not bending forward.

My surgeon gave me a script, which I filled, but never had to use it. Hopefully yours is just temporary.

Thanks everyone for your comments. It seems (as like with anything) that everyone experiences things differently. I have been taking drugs provided by my surgeon for the first month but I have now finished them so it seems I need to get more for a while longer.

Hey! I have had some weight gain since 4.5 years out. I’m now 6 years out. What tools are you using to maintain?

I used to take tums for dessert, a couple tums, and my heartburn would go away. Now I take less and less tums. I still take them when I have a different food or so; but a lot less, I used to take 2 at a time, and now I might take 6 a week. A lot less then daily that's for sure, and I'm over 2 years out. I saw the change in the last 7 months or so.
