Default Eating More Plant Based and Less Meat

    Hello All,
I am interested in starting to eat less meat and more plant based. I'm starting tentatively with veggie burgersand I bought some cauliflower rice/protein bowls. I've been interested in eating more plant based for awhile, so if anyone has any suggestions, HELP ME!!! I've been Googling and have some ideas but would like to hear what you guys like.

Just watched a video that recommends that as the basis of our diet.

Check out "Long Term Success Tips 2/5 : WLS Food Basics with Dr. V" on YouTube.

He basically says animal protein is OK occasionally, but plant based should be the bottom of our food pyramid.

Did I mention I love this guy? He's turning the "basics" we learned upside down. And seeing I continue to struggle to maintain (though I'm doing it) I am going to start some of his ideas. Had a green smoothie for breakfast which was delicious. And going to have his "Big Ass Salad" for lunch! I'm drinking more water.

Not sure if I agree with everything he says, but definitely a lot. Like he says no dairy. And no protein shakes once you can eat food. I use that as my coffee creamer and don't want to give it up.

    Good luck!

Sharon, can you share the recipe for the smoothie please? I haven't found it yet.

I just did the basic one he talked about in a video, but he has a whole book on them. Fill the ninja blender with greens (I used spinach), skim milk (wrong!!), banana, and frozen fruit. I used berries. It was really delicious, and surprisingly filled me up until lunch. Went to Costco today for more frozen fruit (got pineapple and mango) and some almond milk. I'm not sure why he is anti-dairy, but he wants almond or soy milk.

I also found several green smoothie recipe books at my local library!

I don't think I can do "no dairy." I have to have my yogurt!

I'm trying some things and ignoring others. Like no coffee is just crazy talk.

Thank you :-) Will give it a go at the weekend. Don't have a blender or similar at work which is where I have my breakfast.

No coffee is crazy talk--especially as I sit here drinking my coffee! Some of his ideas are very interesting though.

Tonight I had meatless meatballs. I have to say that I could not tell the difference between the meatless and real meat. It was THAT good.

world according to eggface has a lot of recipes. My daughter (who doesn't have sleeve) uses a lot of tofu. She has great ways to fix it. If you have any interest, I can get you a couple of her recipes. But you have to like Asian flavors, like sriracha sauce, lol

Sharon, I love Dr. V as well. But some things are not what I'm going to do, like no coffee, no protein shake. And since I have other issues (like almost no large colon) common sense needs to prevail for each of us.

But overall, I think he rocks!

OK I have lost 5 pounds in one week just by making 3 changes, a green smoothie for breakfast, more water, and no snacking. I talked to my PCP about it yesterday and she was all for it. I have been having 2 eggs for breakfast since surgery 6 years ago, am on cholesterol meds, so she wants me to continue skipping the eggs and get my cholesterol tested in a month. It may not matter as it is totally my FAMILY. She also said my weight is fine unless I want to get obsessive about it. I'm obsessive. Just ask my husband. Today I was 132 at 5'3". My goal is 130.

I can't wait to buy the smoothie maker and start having the green smoothies.
Does anyone have any recommendations for brand/type please? They are quite expensive here so I don't want to make the wrong decision and get one that isn't right.

He recommends the Ninja, but I have a cheap Walmart Knock-Off, The Magic Bullet, that works well. I won't buy the fancy one until mine dies.
