Default 3 months out- setting a realistic goal

I am doing well, I am 3 months out and have lost 48 pounds. I am 5'4" and I am trying to figure out what is a realistic goal. I don't want to set myself for failure but would like to get down there. I will be 50 next month so I know I can't weigh what I did at 18. Any feedback would be appreciated.

When I started I weighed 307 and as a male with an athletic build I set 220 as a reasonable goal and would have been thrilled with that. I hit 207 and my new goal after 26 months is 210. I hit 210 after only 10 months and have been at that weight since. My surgeon told me not to get too concerned with goals and just work the program.

But to answer your question I will give you my unscientific opinion. Depending on your build and activity level, would 150 be reasonable? I think 140 is also very possible. When I stared losing I became very motivated. I lost a lot in the first 2 months and then settled into a steady 6-8 pounds per month. With you being 3 months out and possibly losing 5-6 per month for the next 9 month you could reach a very good weight for you. Best of luck. Keep us posted.

This is a hard one as everyone is so very different.
My initial goal was 70kg as this was the smallest that I had every been in my adult life. When I achieved this and kept losing I was thrilled. I am now 62kg and my body has stabilised at this weight. It is within the healthy BMI range for my height (which although only a guide is also a positive for me) and I feel good.
I think it is good to have a target but your body will also probably find its "happy" weight too.

You are doing great! Keep at it and let us know how you get on.

A healthy BMI was always my goal. I know some people don't believe in those charts, but I do. I'm in the healthy range but near the top. I'd love a little more "cushion." At 5' 4" my goal was 140 which I stayed at for years. But then I shrank a little with age and think I should be closer to 130. Been there, but am having trouble staying there. Just turned 63 so I don't think age is a factor. More like what I put in my mouth.

Thank you so much. I have my goal set at 140 but I was thinking should I be shooting for 130. I will just see how it goes and I am sure my body will tell me what I want to be. We are the same height so that is great to know.

I don't see why you can't weigh what you did when you were 18 if that's what you'd like to weigh. I'm 5'4" also, and I weigh less than I did in high school. I was 120 at 18 and 115 now at 42. I don't think you really get much say in it in the beginning though. Your body is going to lose no matter what for probably the first year. Maintaining that loss is where it gets tricky.

Thanks so much! I would love to get down there I was just trying to make sure I was not setting myself up for failure. It’s awesome that you have been able to do that and keep it off. That gives me lots of encouragement.

I am the same height, but almost 68. I agree with sraebaer, not your age but what you eat, darn it!

I was 122 at my lowest, but have stabilized between 130-140. I kinda of shoot for 135, but try not to get crazy up and down.

I found WW (recommended by sraebaer) really helps me with maintenance. <3 Good job you're doing!

I was about at the same starting weight and am the same height and in my 50's. I set my goal weight for 140. I havent hit it yet. I did settle into 150-155 for a long period of time and was happy at that weight and size. I did start to gain a bit and cut out the bad stuff and slowly throughout this past fall, it came off and I am at 148 now. I always hated to set up expectations with a weight goal because all my life it just never happened and was crushing. With that said, I would focus more on how you feel when you get to each 10 pound mark and reassess. The scale is a good monitoring tool, but I truly believe its how you really feel about yourself, the way clothes fit and your self confidence more than anything. I feel normal now and realized I never did before. That was a huge realization. Good luck and awesome job on your progress so far!
