    Default Hello

Hi, I'm just reaching the end of my liver shrinking diet. I am having a gastric sleeve in 3 days. I'm excited at the thought of finally getting my weight under control!
I was advised to do the LSD for 3 weeks and have stuck to it religiously and lost 7kg.

I have 15 stone of excess weight to loose. My main motivation for doing this is my children. I have 2 children both school age and i want to be around for them as long as possible. My husband has terminal cancer, we are hoping to have a year or 2 left with him. When we found out i gained 3 stone, gradually, but i am now at my heaviest.

We have booked 1 final holiday to America (disney) and i will be a year post op by then. Last time i went i didn't fit on many rides so i am really looking forward to going on them this time. However I am worried what i will be able to eat. Last time i ate pancakes for breakfast most days. I never ate lunch but did eat out again for dinner. Usually having a starter and pudding or pizza. Obviously i won't be able to eat anywhere near as much as last time but i would hope to try a bit of what i fancy while there.

Does anyone think this will be possible. The main things i will miss are the pancakes with maple syrup, crunchy cheetos, burgers (usually leave the bread) and fries, oreo milkshakes, glazed donuts, nachos, spaghetti carbonara, pizza,

I love eggs, fish and chicken, not a big red meat fan, can take or leave bread so thats good, i don't drink alcohol and I've given up diet coke.
So plan to have these things a lot but any advice appreciated thanks.

Welcome, this is a great place for questions. A year post op will be no problem at all! You will concentrate on protein, veggies, then good carbs if room. You will be eating less. I can tell you I haven't had pancakes in 6 years, I almost always have eggs for breakfast. Rarely oatmeal. I think I've only had a pasta dish a few times. Lunches and dinners are based on protein. If you want a piece of pizza after a year it won't be a problem, as long as it isn't that often. All those things you said you'll miss, you will be so used to healthy eating by then, and you may have lost all your weight by then, so you won't really miss them. You will be too excited about being a healthy, regular sized person to worry about fries or shakes or donuts. You won't want to go back to your old ways. Totally possible!!

    Hi,
Thanks for taking the time to reply to my message. You are definitely right, i will enjoy being thinner and healthier. Day to day life I'm not worried about being tempted. But obviously on holiday things are different. Hopefully i will be able to just have a taste of a few things my husband has. Im planning on eggs most mornings and ordering starters or kids meals. Have been looking at the places to eat, we will be spending all our time at universal studios. We went last year and i didn't fit on the hulk, any harry potter rides or the rip saw one, i think it's called that. My goal is to be able to ride everything with my husband and kids and make some great memories before my husband gets too sick.

    Welcome to the group Sparkle41
I actually find that going on holiday I end up losing weight. You are going to be so busy walking around and enjoying all of the rides that you WILL be able to fit in that you won't be worrying about the food. You will find that after your surgery, you will not have the cravings that you once had--most of the time, the desire to eat is just not there. All of the things that you mentioned that you love at Disney, you will be able to have them, maybe a bite, a lick, or a taste, but trust me, you will be enjoying your new body so much that you just wouldn't want to go down that slippery slope. At any rate, go to Disney next year and enjoy. So sorry to hear about your husband.

Thanks kenson. Nice to know i can have a taste if i want to. But agree i will enjoy much more than the food this time. Seen some nice starters and grilled chicken on some of the menus.
I just really hope i manage to loose enough weight by then. My surgeon thinks i will loose about 9 stone in 6-9 months. Just really hard to get your hear around that.

SRAEBAER is spot on, and she's been quite a guiding light (as has kenson) and Ann2 in long term success. I do have pizza on occassion - but 1 slice, eaten over an hour, thin crust with light cheese & mushroom. And then I adjust the rest of my day accordingly.

I do not like pancakes, but do an occasional, very small homemade from cupboard waffle, with a schmear of sugar free marmalade. I do find most of the time, I do not want "bad" foods. But I also know it's the daily habits that make me still the size I was post sleeve (I'm a bit over 2 years out).

I got too thin for a while -- 122 at my age meant hagard face, and no "behind". I'm right where I look healthy, and my clothes fit, and lots of energy at 140 lbs.

You will find you are so busy doing things, that eating is no longer your priority. But don't be afraid to get counseling, join a face-to-face support group, or keep an emotional journal to help you sort out your food.

I am so sorry about your husband, but no one knows how long they have -- making healthy, positive memories regardless of age or health is a gift to your children.

Thanks Annie, gutted to have just had a call from the hospital cancelling my surgery. Bed crisis at the hospital and all non emergency cases are cancelled. Possibly Thursday or Saturday now. So fingers crossed!

Thats ok, thanks for wishing me well. Im on the milk and yogurt liver shrinking diet, i think different places do different ones. Can't stomach the yogurt today though, only managed 1 instead of 4. Think it's because i thought i was going to have a few days off them. Good luck with your surgery too

Hope your surgery is rescheduled soon.

I found as, as Kenson mentioned, that going on holiday can actually result in weight loss. I had 5 weeks in Italy and was dreading getting back on the scales but found that I had lost 2 kilos! We did a lot of walking!
I was a little wary of eating out in the beginning but actually there is usually something that is post WLS friendly. If possible I take a look at the menu online if it is available so I have some idea of what items I can eat so that I am prepared when I have to make my decision. I tend to steer away from the Kids menus as they are often not ideal - usually include fries etc.

Good luck with everything - keep focused on that trip to Disney and all the things that you will be able to do with ease.

I've been doing it for just over 3 weeks now, will be nearly 4 by the time i have my operation now. I haven't found it too hard actually. Been having around 750-800 calories a day. Not really missed food or felt that hungry. The downside has been it's so cold to be having milk and yogurt, don't like them room temperature or warmer. Also I've been feeling weak a lot and dizzy if i get up too quick. Bit worried about that for the first couple of weeks after surgery.
I will definitely let you know how it goes. Im new to this forum so trying to find my way around the site and where best to post things/ find things

Thanks kiwi girl, it's great that several of you actually loose weight on holiday. My problem will be that i can't do a lot of walking as I'm disabled. I have mobility problems not related to my weight.
Looking at the menus is a good idea, i have been doing this for the holiday and also places to eat where i live. I like socialising out so still want to go out and enjoy meals with friends.
